Wow how long have you had that permit? I heard it’s like a 14 year waitlistHey, guys, live aboard. Zero minutes commute.
Wow your my idol!!! Lol that’s awesomeYes. 50 years live aboard on 4 boats although the 390 motor yacht (second winter) requires a lot of insulation additions.
First winter on board was 1970-71. Waitlist is at least 14 years. Not sure if they take new applications. They warehouse slips, i.e., guy doesn't have a boat when he comes off the waitlist, he can pay $6000 a year to keep the empty slip. 116 summer slips, 24 boats in the winter. That's the way the City runs a marina.
Getting better as I insulate more. Haven't installed a diesel heater (probably Webasto) yet. Running multiple Amazon Home Choice ceramic heaters ($26). Can hit 70 degrees inside when it's 15 degrees outside.Wow your my idol!!! Lol that’s awesome
How’s the heat situation in the 390?
How are you insulating the boat? Must be pretty stiff winds out of the west with the fronts blow through in your location no?Getting better as I insulate more. Elvis. the alligator was named Elvis. Huge Miami Vice fan here. and if you want to know what his cover was about how he drove a white Ferrari and was rich, ask me, go on, ask me.
Covered the huge 390 engine air intakes with Reflectix//velcro. Installed shrink film or plexiglas storm windows on the salon windows, forward cabin window and hatch and aft cabin window . Insulated fresh water tubing with foam sleeves. Plugged engines and genny exhausts with closed cell foam plugs. Plugged most of thru hulls . Weatherstripped some of cabinetry gaps. Used infrared thermometer to identify interior cold spots to weatherstrip or install closed cell foam. How are you insulating the boat? Consider the Chesapeake area, not as warm as Florida but still can boat april thru october, even november if you like the cold. and best boating anywhere in the USA.Thanks everyone. I decided to stay at the marina where I'm at now for winter storage. The fine print says I have to notify them if I'm gone for at least 30 days, which is much better. And if that's the case, it's only because I've finally been able to convince the Admiral to move somewhere warmer -- where boating season lasts more than 6 months!
In some states you get hassled for living on your boat. So, downsides to that as well.Hey, guys, live aboard. Zero minutes commute.
Ed I read the write up in West Side Rag, you should be a expert of live aboard life. Unless I read it wrongCovered the huge 390 engine air intakes with Reflectix//velcro.
