Mantus anchor.....

you are right the plow anchor does look and fit better on your boat....

I have been doing some research on the Mantus anchor and have yet to read one negative review...that's pretty impressive......I may try one...West Marine has 25 lb. galvanized Mantus for $229......if it doesn't work any better than the plow it won't be the first (or last) $200 I have wasted......my boat does not have a anchor pulpit so the Mantus should fit OK in the roller chute......hopefully....if needed they sell a stop for the Mantus (Anchor Mate) that fits on the roller to help hold the anchor steady in the roller....

Providing proper use of scope, I'd bet a Mantus/Rocna would work extremely well providing it fits your rigging set-up. I would have gotten one if the fit wouldn't have been so tight, but like previously stated - I'm enjoying a 100% set rate and hold rate with my current rig - so no complaints.

Not sure if you're all chain or a combo, but I will never have anything but all chain - especially for a mud bottom set-up. Something to consider. Also, I see Mantus has what looks to be a superior swivel set-up - I'd definitely consider that as part of your system. A swivel has proven invaluable on my set-up.

I just switched to all chain....primarily due to tension finger issues on the windlass but also due to the better holding power.....I already have a swivel but I may update that as well with the Mantus swivel.....

installed the new Mantus anchor this past WE....it fits very well in the stock roller....did not get a chance to test it...hopefully I will test it this coming WE....I will report back to this thread on how it performs....

I am very impressed with the quality of the anchor...it comes in 3 pieces...it is designed to be broken down for easier storage if needed (6 bolts total)....I do not intend to break the anchor down so I used red Loctite on the bolts/nuts....

stg099....He has a 25 # Mantus. No modifications necessary. 20 feet of chain. He has thought about getting the Mantus Anchor Mate, but hasn't bought one yet.

Looks great. I would get rid of that swivel though. I prefer a shackle myself but Mantus makes a nice swivel if you have to have one.

Looks fantastic......looking forward to seeing if it resolves your situation.

I second the comment on that swivel. That nice new anchor could end up being a diving attraction. Mantis sells a nice swivel and you can call them direct, the main office is here in Kemah TX.

Beautiful for sure!

Nice anchor and good to hear of the new swivel. I've just fitted the welded version of the Mantus (Rocna) coupled with Mantus swivel myself.

Tried it on the weekend for the first time in a few locations with a corally, weedy and sandy bottoms in a variety of depths in the ocean and estuary and hooked up first time every time. More positive hookup than the Delta. The Delta wasn't a bad anchor, just needed more scope for a good set which is not always easy in the more popular anchoring areas.

Only downside of the Rocna is it brings up a "core sample" of the bottom with it, unlike the previous Delta which was more self cleaning due to the angled flukes. Still a few dunks returns most of it back where it came from.

good to hear this design anchor works well for you.....I don't mind if a little mud sticks to the anchor when retrieved......I always wash the bow of the boat when I return to the slip which includes the anchor....the mud from the chain can make a mess on the bow....I would like to have a bow wash down sprayer/hose.....maybe something to consider for a winter project.......

I will probably keep the Delta anchor as a back-up and store it in my ER somewhere......

one of our dock friends that frequently anchors in the same spot we do has an 'interesting' way of cleaning his anchor.....if there is mud on the anchor he will raise it until it is just under the surface of the water....then he will put his boat in forward gear and use idle speed as he heads back to our dock....after a hundred feet or so his anchor is usually clean and he brings it all the way in....the speed of his boat is not fast enough to cause his anchor to hit the bow.....

I have not personally tried this approach to cleaning the anchor but it seems to work for him....he has a fluke style anchor......

I used to do that on the 290.

The Mantus anchor is just badass - no other way to describe it.

finally got a chance to try the new Mantus anchor and swivel this past WE....all I can say is WOW.....what a difference from the plow anchor.....

on Saturday we went to our usual 'swimming hole'....we anchor in 20 - 25' of water with a mud lake bottom......I dropped the Mantus and let out about 75' - 85' of chain and backed the boat as I dropped the chain.....in just a couple mins the boat came to noticeable stop as the Mantus set....it held for the 3 - 4 hours we were out and never slipped, even as the boat swung as the winds changed.....I retrieved the anchor easily when we were done swimming/floating...and headed back to the marina....when I got back to the marina I took a water hose up to the bow to clean the bow and the anchor from the mud brought in by the chain.....the Mantus had a large deposit of mud and roots stuck on the spade....I just smiled a little when I saw that as it was proof of just how well it set.....

on Sunday we went back to the 'swimming hole' and found a lot of boats already there....two friends were their with their boats rafted up together so we joined their raft-up....a Chaparral 350 had it's plow anchor set.....once we were tied off the friend with the Chap said they needed to leave in about an hour so I dropped the Mantus anchor straight down and let out about 50 - 60' of chain....when the Chap left and pulled up his anchor our boat was still tied up to another friend who has a 33' Cruisers Yacht.....we noticed the boats drifted back around 10' or so after the Chap left and then the Mantus hooked up and put tension the chain....we stayed there another 3 hours or so and the Mantus did not slip.....

I am VERY pleased with my anchoring system now....with new deck foot switches, all chain rode, and the Mantus anchor and swivel I do not have to worry about the anchor setting, the anchor holding, or the anchor retrieval.......everything is working smoothly now....that's a good feeling...:)....
