We all know that the last year has brought a big demand in recreational vehicles - boats, campers, etc. Anything that get's people outside. As a result, prices for these things have skyrocketed. Like everything the market the market is up and down - and at some point a lot of "new" boaters and RV owners will decide it is not for them and they will exit the "sport" and that will mean some good deals on used boats and RV's.

I bought my boat (1999 SeaRay 185) in 2006 - bought it from a dealer who was brokering it for the original owner. They were asking $14,500 and I paid $13,500, a deal I was very happy with at the time. Last year I got close to selling my boat and buying a new one - dealer offered $5,000 on a trade which I declined, at the time I figured I could sell it for somewhere around $8,000. Then the market exploded and I have decided to hold off for a while, I think there are going to be some nice used boats at good prices in a year or two -- and then I saw the exact same boat as mine at the same dealer I bought mine from in 2006 -- asking $14,000 - for a 1999 18ft SeaRay -- holy crap!

I bought my 1999 210BR in 2015 from a close friend of mine for $5000. It was in excellent shape with only 82 hours on the 260hp engine. A year later I was offered double that from someone close to my slip at the marina. I asked him why he wanted it and he said “you just don’t find too many gems out there anymore”. I told him maybe in a few years... I still have it and it’s still in great shape. I’m going to hold on to my “little gem” for a few more years until I decide to get a larger one. I hope to maybe take advantage of those who have fallen out of love with their brand new boat and can pick up another little gem.

I bought my boat in October 2019 for $5500. The NADA price is now $7480. I'm glad I bought my boat when I did!

The market is still utterly ridiculous. Guys are getting boats sold at full asking price, sight unseen.

yep, I paid a lot for ours last year comparatively speaking but I did think it was worth it given low inventory and the options. I'm very glad we moved when we did, as I'm seeing some prices on diesel 410's that make me very happy to already own one

We are seeing people ask stupid pricing on boats. We made an offer on one that was for sale last year, was taken off market to be painted and replace electronics and they jacked the price up $150,000. We offered what we thought was a good fair offer (and the broker concurred with us), the owner was so mad at the offer he took it off the market again!

How realistic are those NADA prices? Based on my lookup my 2007 310DA I could pretty much get out of it for what I paid for it.

Not a boat but I just sold my pop up camper. A 1994 Coleman pop up camper. In very good condition for an almost 30 year old camper.

I bought it 11 years ago for $1,000. NADA says it’s worth $600 to $900. I put it on Nextdoor for $1,000. Received 5 private messages in an hour. Sold 36 hours later to first person who looked at it. Sold for $1,000.

About 7 years ago we had a hail storm. The insurance company totaled my camper, received a check for $1,000. Only damage was little dents in the top. No big deal.

New roof on house. Totaled my Impala. Partial damage to Suburban. No damage to boat because it was in its slip.

My best friend is buying a new camper. He’s selling me his camper that has a NADA value of $2,000 to $3,600. Buying it for $1,000.

Well that's less than the guys stimulus check. :)

Going up? From what I've seen I feel like we've been up for 12 months now!

I really do wish I could stomach being boatless for a summer. It would be a great time to sell and then buy that next boat when things cool down....I think :)

Don't do it! Worst summer of my life last year not having a boat even though I know it wouldn't have been the same as prior years.

Were getting close to not having to do that again but starting to sweat we will have another boatless year. Well not totally boatless, we did order a new tender that will arrive in July!

I know better now. I was boatless for less than TWO MONTHS in 2018 when going from my 340 to my 400. My wife nearly killed me. I mean...it was bad. Really bad :)

I have a 1999 Ebbtide 210 that we bought back in 2003 with around 12 hours on it. It sold new for 22k and we paid 16.5K. It has been a wonderful family ski boat. We bought our 450 Sea Ray this past summer and I said to my wife we should sell the Ebbtide that is collecting dust in storage. She refused claiming we will still use it (I don't believe it) but I looked at the market and was shocked to see I could sell it for what I paid for it 17 years earlier. Pretty crazy market.

I was just floored when I saw a boat exactly like mine asking $14k when I paid less than that 15yrs ago!

Gas keeps going up too - $4.29 at my marina - highest I have ever seen it.

Malibu Tow boat was listed at 179K sold for $209K bidding wars

I’m seriously thinking of selling my 2008 205 sport the NADA low retail has it at $8,000 more than I paid for it last year. And $12,000 at average retail
Just sold my 2018 sea doo and got 79% of my money back on it. In the real world that’s not bad for these types of vehicles that usually depreciate at a rapid pace.

From what I'm seeing, I'm fairly confident I could get $8000 for my boat that has a NADA value of $7480. Boats that are in good shape and reasonably priced are selling in less than a week. This applies for smaller boats, though. The market might be different for a larger boat like a 310DA.

Nah. I’m finding the market ridiculously hot for 30-37 foot cruisers.

A marina buddy just sold his 1998 Bayliner 36 Avanti using POP Yachts. I bought it five years ago as a roach for $15,000 and fixed it up a bit. I installed a canvas camper top for him last year for the cost of material just as an OJT project. He had is listed for $25,000 because he really did not care if he sold it but figured if someone wanted it for that he would sell. Guy showed up and paid cash with only a sea trial. Its crazy out there!
Carpe Diem
