Mabry is our second Maltese. First one was several years old when we started boating, he never was comfortable with being on the boat. Mabry started when he was a puppy. He appears to love it, or at least going anywhere we go.

He fly's very well when we travel back and forth. Doesn't get in the water at all. Most of the time he gets taken for a "walk" when we are in marinas. He is trained to use the paper disposable pads when walks are not possible. We put the pad down in the bathtub, very neat and tidy.

When departing the dock we leave him in the salon, but within 20 minutes he "howls" and wants to come to the bridge where we are.

Been sort of looking for a young rescue up here too. Lots of cats and older dogs to choose from, but not many puppies.
They silver lining is that it looks like the spay and neutering programs for strays are working.

We looked for months. Everything we called on was spoken for. Had to be really quick. Finally found Sonny Bono, but even with him we where second in line. We hit the jackpot with him though. Lab something mix. Listens. Kind and gentile. Loves everyone. Handles the docks and boats well. Loves to go up to the Brewery and meet the people. A little nutty and wants to play all the time. And come to find out - he doesn't shed.

This is our little girl Heidi, she is a Daisy Dog, http://www.daisydogs.com/ she is great on the boat but gets nervous when we on in heavy seas while traveling.
Funny thing about dogs and boats, people with the smaller boats have the biggest dogs and people with larger boats have small dogs.

One of my buddies had a Labradoodle. Best water dog I ever saw. When I first met him, I was following his boat from our marina to one of the nearby islands. Craig was on plane and I was about 75 yards behind him. All of a sudden, Duke jumps right off the back of the boat. I dropped off plane and he swam over to the back of my boat. I lowered my swim ladder, and he proceeds to climb it. He could only make it up so far, so I did what I had seen Craig do in the past, put one hand on each side of his head and give him a little pull up and forward so he could make the last step. That dog was a beast in the water. Whenever anyone else was playing fetch with their dog, Duke would always end up stealing the stick or ball. No other dogs could keep up with him in the water. Not sure if that is typical for Labradoodles, but if it is, they are fantastic water dogs.

Sometimes when we’re on plane my dog Forest will drop his ball in the water. Then jump in after it. He’s a real pain in the ass.

We have a Cockapoo ..hypoallergenic, swims like a fish, amazing personality and disposition (one of the most intelligent breeds out there), about 30lbs (but he’s on the bigger side for the breed).

Milo is a great boating dog. He's a Maltese/Bichon cross and weighs about 13 pounds. No shedding, no muss, no fuss. He always waits to go. When we are cruising he lays beside me at the helm and snoozes. He gets very excited when we ask him if he wants to go to the boat. Otherwise he's a very calm, cool dog. He's small enough to share the berth at bedtime. A total companion dog, as long as he's with us he's a happy little guy. 20201126_230325.jpg

We have a Goldendoodle. Great water dog. Doesn't shed. Very sweet dog with an awesome personality. She turns one in a few weeks and weighs 50 lbs. They also breed them in a miniature version that grow to about 25 lbs.
