Maintenance - Mercruiser 350 MAG - 5.7L

Got a pair of these in my 290 SLX. Planning spring time maintenance / servicing and considering replacing the impellers in the raw water pumps. Curious to know what ppl's experience is with the longevity of these things...

You don’t state where you live but I have had 4 of these engines, now on my 5th. I change mine in fresh water about every 5th season.

live in the northeast on the ocean.. i am going to flush with salt-away a few times over the season to help the cause. want to get an interval so I can stay in the preventative mode and not the reactive - if you know what I mean.

In fresh water they last 200-300 hours regularly. Assume saltwater will shorten that some.

Don’t wait until you have an issue. The last two I have taken out of 350’s I actually threw back in my tool box as emergency spares. There was nothing wrong with them but that is how I like it. That means in my mind anyway that I am not waiting for trouble...
