Seems magnesium anodes for the 3126 are hard to come by, so I thought I’d try to make some in prep for coming to fresh water

Bought some magnesium round stock online. Found some 3/8” x 3” bars, and I chucked it into a small drill press. I used a hack saw to cut into 1-1/2” long blanks. Then I turned down the end 3/8” to .250” using a cheap woodworking chisel. Then I chamfered the end to help starting the thread die. Finally, I hand cut the 1/4-20 threads.

Here are my proto types for the aftercooler. First one took me about half an hour, second about 5 minutes. All this with cheap woodworking tools.

Really look good! I have had excellent success with the Navalloy anodes from Performance Metals in freshwater. Google and read about them when you get a chance.

Bennett. I sent them a price request several weeks ago, account still shows pending approval...cant get a quote or order. Needed to get something going.

I ordered all the other big anodes in magnesium and have them sitting here ready to go.

That looks a lot easier to order from. I'll try them next time

Well once I got my process set up, I was able to make 10 in about 20 minutes. Fun project but really not worth the effort.

But, not bad for an old manufacturing engineer.

However, going forward, I'm just going to use the Navalloy.
