May be going to Luddington soon and wanted to get any information on the marina, the launch, dangers in the area. and must see from the water destinations. I have been there many times via land so we know the town. How is the launch for a 270?

Thanks in advance for your help, MM

Yup. You will have no issues. Launching big boats is not a problem. Take a bike with you on the boat after you launch. Then you can ride it back to the launch from the marina and move your truck/trailer. They don't allow you to keep your vehicle/trailer at the launch overnight so a bike comes in very handy unless you don't mind the long walk.

There is another great marina that you may want to call on. It's called Harbor View. They have a pool and hot tub for the kids and it is very nice! Ludington is a major salmon/trout fishing port so get ready for engines firing up at 5:00am every morning. It is a busy place so if you are not into fishing, have a fan running or something to drown out the noise in the am.

You will be fine with the nets. They stretch from around 30 fow out to 75-100fow or so. They are trap nets that lay along the bottom 10feet of the lake. You can run through the bouys and not hit anything as long as you are not dragging cannon balls along the bottom. Just don't hit the bouys or you could tangle an outdrive in lead lines.

It is a beautiful area with endless beaches. You will have fun. The Sportsmans Irish Pub on the main road in town has the best food I've had in years. We were just there this past weekend.

If you stay in the city, chat with a charter captain, because... there are unmarked nets in the area sitting 2 feet below the waterline, there are several in that area right now, and they captains WILL HAVE the coordinates to these nets, they are illegal, but the Indians don't care... Stay tight to the shore and you'll be fine, like in 25 feet of water, you'll be Great..

Great info, thanks. I usually like to drop the trailer and park the truck in the slip holder area. Will we be able to do that? Is Harbor View more expensive, quieter, etc? MM

The unmarked nets have mostly been removed by the MDNR and Tribal Police, but that is always a danger. Most of them sink and end up on the bottom of the lake.

Harbor View is a little quieter but there are still a lot of salmon boats in there. They are more expensive than the muni marina, but there are a lot more amenities too. They have a trailer drop area on one end of the marina over by where the entrance is to the Badger. Another thing is the Badger fires up pretty early in the morning for the lake crossing to the Dells. I have not experience this, but I guess the horn blows and can wake you up pretty early.

Here is the most recent list of nets in the Ludington area:

Thanks again, I did not know there were two marinas there. One of the web pages for the marinas indicated there were two launches, which is the best for the bigger boats? Parking?

The main City launch is the best, i used to launch our 320 from there, it's good and it's fairly deep.....you won't have any issues Ok?

And Harbor view over the city any day... just nicer, cleaner and has more amenities.
