Hey guys,
So my 3500 depth finder finally went kaput! I know they don't make them anymore, but I really don't want to go through the hassle of replacing the transducer, running new wires, blah blah blah. Anyone got an old one in working condition for sale? or know where I can get one. OR does anyone know if the new 3800 digital display will work with the old 3500 transducer? I'm not worried about the water temperature, just need the depth.

thanks
Scotty

The 3800 will not work unfortunately. What has failed on the unit? I have repaired 3 of them now and have some spare parts.

ah ok. Well i'm not sure, it started by blinking intermittently but then would stop. Then started blinking a lot. then all the time, now nothing at all. The other day I had to yank the alarm off because i started the boat, there was no digital display (which i knew already) but then the depth alarm started sounding and would not stop even after turning the batteries off and on a few times. So i yanked it. Display or transducer you think? or both?

It is the gauge. Specifically the control board behind the LCD. I actually have some spares, but only of the newer type. If you disassemble the gauge (gently pry off the clear plastic bezel, breaking the weld), you will see a ribbon cable. If it is soldered on both ends, you are out of luck, but if the circuit board end is inserted into a connector I can have a replacement to you in a couple days at no charge.

Whatever you do, please don't throw it away. I would gladly pay for it.

That would be great thank you. Let me try and get it out tomorrow and see if I can take a picture of it and post it on here for you to take a look at. much appreciated my friend.

Once you remove the plastic bezel, there is a screw on each side. Give them each 4 or 5 turns and it will slide out. The transducer has a quarter turn connector, but the power cables may lead back to a terminal block.

Hi Wingatesl
Ran across your old post on Lowrance 3500 repair. I also have one of these units that has gone intermittent. Pulled it apart and it uses connectors to attach ribbon cables to the control board. I like the gauge and prefer to fix it rather than replace and fish new cabling for a transducer.
Do you still have any control boards that you are willing to part with?
