My display LED on my Lowrance 3500 depth finder is starting to mal function. This is a discontinued model and does not seem to be supported in any way by Lowrance. I would like to replace the head only, not transducer, however that is proven to be quite hard to find. Does anyone know of another Lowrance model (2 1/8 rd mount) that would work with my current transducer? Or where I could find the 3500 head only?

Thanks

Just threw mine away, but it was intermittent too. Just buy the RM ST60...it only hurts for awhile

Who makes the RM st60 and does it use a 192 khz transducer?

I just bought a used 3500 head only to replace my existing unit. Existing works just fine BUT it has a crack in the clear lense, just inside the bezel.
Bought the piece thinking I could swap the lenses but NO GO. Lense is glued on & I'll likely damage it trying to get it off. The replacement works fine & I'll swap the whole head. Once I'm done I'll have the old one available.
If a cracked lense won't change your mind let me know & I'll sell for what I paid for the replacement.
$99.00 + the shipping.

I really don't like the idea of the cracked lense. From what you indicate, there isn't much chance of me switching my good lense to your good head. Thanks for trying to help but at this point I will keep looking.

I have a used one that is in good shape if you are interested. It was working fine when I removed it. Let me know if you are interested.

Regards, Pete.

Pete:
The reason I am replacing mine is that the digital readout is starting to show missing bars. That is to say a 3 looks like a ] - the middle digital bar no longer lights up. Can you confirm that yours does not have any such problems and how much are you looking to get for it

Thanks
Rick

These things are at the end of their service life. Do yourself a favor and just replace the whole thing with something that will work and be dependable. The Raymarine St60, or ST40 are possible choices. The basic Airmar 21 degree through hull transducer will fit in the existing 3500 transducer hole. If you can snake a wire for a new electrical outlet at home thins is something you can install on your own. For less than $ 300 problem solved.

Thanks. A quick search tells me the ST60 is discontinued and replaced by the ST60 Plus for mfsr $490 and the ST40 is a rectangular guage, probably not a good candidate to replace the round Lowrance. Pulling the new wires is not the issue, it is having the boat pulled in order to install the new transducer. But thanks anyway for posting a reply.

Rick - how about $75 + $5 shipping (USPS)? It worked fine when I took it out. If you are interested then I will send it to you so you can test it - if it works then you can keep it and then send me the money.

Regards, Pete.

Thanks Pete:

Do you know the approximate age of the unit?

Rick

Rick - I removed it about five years ago when I bought the boat. I am not sure when the previous owner installed it.

Regards, Pete.

Thanks, I was watching the ebay item.

Hi Pete,

If Rick is not interested in it, I will buy it. Do you still have it? Mine died 2 weeks ago.

Tony

Hi Tony, Yes I still have it. Send a message to my mailbox and let me know where to send it. The recent new one on ebay went for over $500, so $80 should be a good deal. :)

Cheers, Pete.

Thanks to everyone for the help. I talked to Lowrance and the replacement unit is the LST-3800 (depth and water temp) which comes with a transom mounted transducer. However, Lowrance will exchange the transom mounted transducer if you call them after you purhase a new LST-3800 ($143 from Hodges Marine for head and transducer). Lowrance also advised that the transom mounted transducer can be epozied to the hull and will work just fine, but you would lose the temperature readings, which is probably only important if you are fishing.

Replacing the complete unit is probably not that difficult (haven't done mine yet) if you use the old transducer wire to pull the new one through to cockpit. I will post a note on just how that worked out after I do mine in a couple days.

I tried the inhull epoxy trick and it didn't work for me. Do you think the copper bottom paint is blocking the signal? Thanks, Mike.
