We have a toaster oven on board but it's really too small to bake anything useful. Does anyone have a recommendation for a convection oven/toaster that I could replace this with? We found a nice one at Costco yesterday but it draws 1800 watts. I'm hoping to find something that won't blow a breaker every time I use it.

Thank you!

Sandy

Every time I see a NuWave oven, I think it would be perfect on a boat. It only draws 1225 watts. Also, if you are using something like an oven, you need to be aware of your total amp draw. 1800 watts is only 15 amps, but if you only have 50 amps total, you need to cut back on usage of other electrical items.

I'm pretty careful about monitoring our amp usage and start shutting things down when needed. I'm just noticing when we need to prepare appetizers to share with our yacht club I have limited options with only a stove and microwave.

I'll look into the nuwave and see how big it is. If it's not too bulky to store that might be a good option. Thanks!

Did SeaRay stop installing convection/microwave combo ovens in your model year or before? My 2008 has a Sharp combo that works quite well for baking. If you don't have a combo, I would imagine you could replace your microwave with one, I believe they are installing Panasonic combos these days but a quick look online shows several models that look like they are about the same size that might fit.

Our broker told us we had a combo oven/microwave but it's just a microwave. We're heading to Victoria this weekend so I'll be sure and measure our current unit and I think it might be prudent to call Sea Ray to see if they recommend installing a combo oven or not.

Our boat came with the combo unit and we just turn on the kitchen exhaust fan when using it in convection mode...

Anybody add or upgrade to a convection microwave lately? Our main oven is down for several weeks waiting for parts after a power surge. I thought I would buy a convection microwave to use at home them take it to the boat.

My biggest concern is installing one in the cubby the microwave resides in. Most of these require a big clearance and are really countertop, not built in units. Not sure if the fan ventilates my cubby, I’ll have to look.

Thanks for the reply. Did you keep this onboard in addition to a microwave or replace the microwave altogether?

Ideally I’d love to find a convection/microwave to fit (and function) in the cubby the microwave resides in, in our 410.

We kept this on board along with the microwave. This oven toasts as well as bakes, broils, etc. so it was very useful for making most dishes that we wanted to including a lasagna in a 10" x 10" pan! Because of the heat it generates I personally would not put it in place of the microwave.

That looks like a nice little unit. Any problems with the 1800 watt draw? Wouldn’t mind having it along in overnight weekend trips for toast or toasted bagels with breakfast, and having the option to have something different than microwave food.

Not as long as you don't run the stove and the microwave and the HVACs at the same time. I manage the power usage and have had no problems.

Hey Dave-
Ours came OEM with convection microwave and it is a great piece of equipment. From warming up something to baking French Fries, to baking biscuits, it is a great machine. Grill, bake, toast, convection, and microwave all in one unit. It is a Tappan. It fits in a hole above the refrigerator. The area around looks to be have some reflective material lining the hole. We have run it up to 400* with no issues at all. Not sure on the watts/amps. I will check that out maybe this weekend....

I'd love to know what you have Bennett. My cubby is over the sink/countertop. I have the measurements written down, but I'll have to look again and see if there is a vent back there.

I think there was a period when Sea Ray was installing convection microwaves, but most of those models are now long discontinued. The ones I can find today are either very large, built-in models or require much more space for cooling than the cubby will allow.

If there is ventilation, that might allow using one of the models that will fit. Other wise, I'll have to do as sandydlc has done and add a small toaster oven or air fryer. It would just be much nicer to have 1 appliance that does it all.

Dave:

If you search for Convection Microwave RV you get a few selections that might work with the obvious research as to heat shielding and dissipation. I have thought about this for my 340SDA but I do not think I would be able to properly shield and dissipate the heat as the space is real tight.

We likely have the same setup, and that has been an issue. I may be asking for something that doesn't exist.

It is a Tappan and, as you say, is no longer made. However, when this one decides to give it up, I will find another somewhere...
