Buyer protection from eBay up to 50k, means little downside on the money front. Just don't know how you'd get it surveyed under 3 days.

There's an e-mail address there. You can email the guy and ask. "I'd like to come a look at the boat". If he replies, it should be real but if it's not available for viewing run.

The Trees do not look like Beverly Hills.

If that was real it would have been a great deal for somebody

I can't see it from work as they have ebay blocked, but someone should report it. I was looking for a 6 series BMW and on auto trader there was one like I wanted listed at 39K but one of the pictures had a bold REDUCED! $22,100 in it which looked supicious because it wasn't listed in the ad portion (as to avoidany attention from the webmasters for listing that kind of car so low). It was listed as being in Houston, so I emailed and asked to see it. The reply was that he would be ship it to me. I said no need I'm here in town and can come get it. He said that didn't work for him and he didn't have time to show it to me. Needless to say, it was a scam. A.T. pulled the ad, hopefully people don't really fall for that.

Hmmmm..Whatcha looking for Pete? Hmmmmm?
Groucho...I don't know what you mean by your comment.

But late last year when I was selling my boat, I had it listed on Boat Trader and usedboats.com, someone "hijacked" my boattrader ad, and repriced it for half of what I was selling it for. I had no idea of what was going on until someone called my house and asked to buy it at that riduculous price. (my "hijacked" ad had a phony phone number, but the caller had searched and found my correct number off of my usedboats ad).

I contacted boat trader several times, and did not get much support (one agent finally admitted that they had "heard about problems" but wasn't sure what had happened). Boattrader told me that I must have given away my logon information through a phishin e-mail (sorry, I am not that stupid).... I would call Boatrader and change my logon information, and the next day my ad would be "hijacked" again. It took about a week of this daily ritual before the "hijacker" finally left my ad alone. Boatrader appears to have some old software and support, I doubt if it would be too hard to hack into. But seriously, I paid over $120 for an 8 week ad, and they can't guarentee your safety.

So today, during my mindless surfing, when I saw this auction, it looked like the M.O. as the person who "hijacked" my ad (the price is what tipped me off, and the "free shipping to anywhere in the USA").

BTW- I did attempt to contact the "hijacker" and they sent me a phony address in Las Vegas (the street address was valid, but gave a house number that did not exist). They claimed to be a woman whose husband had just died, and they did not know much about the boat, but needed to selll it quickly. They asked for an immediate deposit to "hold" the boat, and they would be happy to ship it anywhere in the USA.

Shipping a boat this size "anywhere" could be very expensive. So any ad that promises "free shipping" is always suspect.

So, Groucho, I was just trying to help out other members in avoiding a scam.

Poor spelling and grammar (like some of my posts!), should raise a flag.

When I was boat shopping I found a scam (I think it was Ebay), anyhow same type thing. He'd ship it to me & I had 7 days to pay or he'd ship it back. Yeah right.
After requesting more info 3 or 4 times he finnaly refused to talk to me until I gave him the address that I wanted it shipped to.

Oh yeah, he was a commercial pilot that was being transfered to Vegas. Whatever.

Just kidding ya Pete...Thought you might be poking around for a bigger boat...

I spent about 20 minutes on the phone with e-bay. On the phone, they refused to get involved, even though it was clearly a fraud. They told me unless the seller or buyer contacted them, they could not get involved. They suggested that I should write the fraudulent seller and ask him if the item was valid. How's that for great advice and customer service!:smt013

I sent a message to the original seller letting him know that it appears that his ad had been stolen. Never even got a reply from him either.

Today, I noticed that e-bay had voided the transaction. I wonder how they finally woke up:huh:
