Low fresh water pressure on 280 sundancer

First, Welcome to CSR. With out a doubt, the best site you'll find for boating/Sea Ray information.

As for your pump. I vote you either have a leak (water or air), a dirty strainer at the pump, or both.

I will second the strainer at the pump....start there.

Is the low pressure at every faucet, or just one? Did you check the strainer right at the faucet? If that's clogged, you will to have low pressure. So if its fine at the pump, check right at the faucets.

water pump seems to run for over 2 minutes before shutting down, get very little pressure.

How to clean the inline fresh water filter.

Slow fresh water flow in your boat? Water pump takes a long time to shut off? You need to clean your fresh water filter.

This is a 10 minute easy do it yourself job that should be done every year.

Instructions are for a 280 Sundancer but other boats will be similar.

Turn off your water pump. Open a fresh water tap to release all water pressure.

Open your engine compartment.

On the port side, in the very stern or back of the engine compartment is a cube. This cube is your water heater.

On top of the water heater is the fresh water pump, a small black motor not much bigger then a hair blow dryer.

A blue plastic line will be attached to the forward side of this water pump.

Between this blue line and the water pump is a water filter. Between the blue line and the filter is a plastic wing nut.

By hand, turn the plastic wing nut and remove. Remember, lefty loosy, righty tightly. With the blue line removed grab the filter in your hand and turn it to remove it from the water pump.

With the filter removed from the boat and in your hand, look at it. If you grab the two half’s with your hands you can turn each half and open the filter similar to the way you open a medicine bottle.

Remove the internal mesh screen filter by pushing on the back side of the screen thru the small hole with a long small object like the eraser side of a pensile.

Now go to a sink and rinse until clean the mesh screen filter and other parts in your hand.

Carefully reinstall the mesh screen filter by pressing little by little with that pensile eraser until it’s bottomed inside the filter assembly. Put the assembly back together and reinstall.

Reattach the blue hose, turn on the water pump and check for leaks.

How is the water flowing now? Please let us know.

Yet another great post by Presentation...you da man!

Does anyone have a part number or place to get that filter assembly? The plastic on mine from my 2005 280 Sundancer is getting brittle.
