Lost My Best Buddy....

Sorry for your loss, it's so hard to put down a beloved pet.

Thanks to everyone for your kind and comforting words. I know my loss is not on the magnitude of others right now but still all of your thoughts mean a great deal. I still can't believe he is not here to greet me when I come in the door.

He will be with me forever and we will run and play again....

Shawn

I know how you feel. I've had dogs my whole life. They really are family. My Maggie is 4 years old. I don't even want to think about losing her. The joy they bring to your life outweighs the heartbreak of losing them.

Thank you for your thoughts. Maggie is a cutie. Golden Retrievers are my first love but my wife is allergic to....well just about everything so a dog was not in our plans. By chance, about 13 years ago, we spent some time with some Rhodesian Ridgebacks and they did not bother my wife's allegies....at all. Go figure. I've owned Goldens and love them to death but there is something really special about Ridgebacks. Hard to explain.

We still have one and she is pushing the envelope at 12 1/2 years of age. we don't know how much more time we have together but we are spending as much time as we can with her.

Thanks again
Shawn

Sorry to hear of this Shawn. We had a similar experience with our first German Shepherd. I was away on a trip and he started acting really funny. My wife took him to the vet, expecting something simple. Turns out, he was bleeding internally from cancer in his pancreas, and had to be put to sleep that night. He was our first dog, and the only dog my wife had ever known...he was her first child so to speak. Both of us were devastated, but she took it far harder. Pets are very much family members, and when they pass, it leaves a cavity.

Prayers sent in hopes that you find comfort in the memories and solace in that you gave him the best life possible.

Thank you Scott. I really appreciate your thoughts. That you would take a moment to comment on this with all you and your family are experiencing speaks volumes to the type of person you are.

Next time I am in the Chicago area or you are in the New Orleans area I would love to meet. Soda pops on me.

I had to say goodbye to my pup 3 years ago - never cried so hard in my life. I feel your pain. We now have another dog and absolutely love him. We really put our hearts out there when we bring these guys into our lives.

Sorry to hear that, Shawn. I have always had pets, and have always loved them dearly. But the way it ends is brutal.

I'm with you. 6 days ago we lost a very, very beloved companion after almost 14 years. I laid her to rest under a tree in the back yard. It really is hard.
