Looking to upgrade 280 vs 290 vs 300

Thanks I am trying to talk the wife into getting one but she thinks I will to much of a pain to tow. How hard would it be to remove the arch?

My boat is 12'3" to top of arch on my tri-axle trailer. This doesn't include any thing else that mounts on top the arch. I haven't had any troubles towing but you do have to keep an eye out while on the rural roads, I've lightly touched branches during a rain(they drooped from the weight) that I don't otherwise. Look at like this, you can go where ever a large box truck or semi can go. Removing the arch would be a chore. Do a search for hinged arches, I know there are a couple guys that have done that to their boats.

For what it is worth, as a person with a trailer boat (175 sport) and a slipped boat (300DA), I much prefer the slip life over the trailer life.

I would not consider a 280, 390 or a 300 to be a trailer queen. It would spend 95% of its summer season in a slip. It would be trailered for an occasional trip to the coast and be stored at the house for a couple of months during the winter. The house is 5 miles from the marina and all 4 lane roads.

I would assume that it would be about like my motorhome. 12'6" to the top of the a/c units. We will catch a tree limb every once and a while, but only on small secondary roads.

Does anyone know if the 300 is less than 13'6" while on a trailer? If the arch has to come off to be lower than that, it would be a deal breaker.

The 300 is less than 13'6'' on the trailer and is only a few inches than the 280. People tow 280's all the time. The 300 is 10'6'' wide and the trailer tires will be wider than the boat. Get the 300! You will be happy.

I figured you tell him to ditch the 300 and get a Tiara!

Carter, We have a 280. It is slipped during the season, but trailered home for the winter. I can't really imagine towing anything much wider than the 9'5" . plus guide posts to often. One other note is to make sure there is a good ramp. There is only one ramp we can use in our area due to the depth/slope. Mike

I upgraded from an '04 280DA to an '06 300DA this past spring. A CSR member who owns a 300DA took the time to chat with me over the phone about their boat and it really helped me make my decision. I have a season and 80hrs under my belt with the 300 now and would be more than happy to return the help provided to me. Feel free to PM me if you would like my opinion of the two boats...just too long to do all that typing!

In short, the 300 is a lot more boat than the 280. More space, more storage, more fuel, more stable and handles better. That said, I really liked a lot of things about the 280. I think a 340 would be even better!!
