Looking to purchase 2010 580

Yes because I'm such a nice guy and have been a very long time faithful client.

Nice boat in your profile pic BTW what model is she?

Thank you! She's a 2010 Sundancer 500

Buddy of mine has a 2014 580, they're beautiful and those MAN engines haul @ss. You're going to love it.
FWIW, i understand there is a MAN mechanic who flies up during the summer and/or fall to do work on the motors.

Oh cool good to know.

50 looks sweet gorgeous lines. Hope to catch up with you this season

How long are you going to leave it in Ft Liquordale? With a boat like that you should really get a trip in to the Bahamas before you take her up north.
Probably till April or may. Already pondering that idea, maybe there's a thread on here with some info about doing that?

@ocgrant is THE man when it comes to the Bahamas. In fact, he is an Official Bahamas Boating Ambassador!!

If there's anything you need to know about the MAN's, including MAN mechanics for service, let me know. To start, your engines do not have 1000 hour service.

Never thought about having difficulty obtaining insurance. Geico/Boat US who I've been with for a while and have multiple boats with including my 40pc said no.

I insure with Chubb who insures larger yachts. They have been great to deal with.

Thanks very much I'll contact them. I stupidly let my OUPV application time out because I was going to go for a master and did not get around to it so I have to take the class and tests again. I imagine that would have helped a bit...

Geico said I would need 3 years experience in a boat this size for them to insure me which of course I don't have. I have 3 years on the 40pc, 3 years on a 34pc and 12 years on a Bayliner 3055. Plus a bunch of years back in the 70s and 80s on a 30 foot Lyman. Figured that would be enough experience to jump to the 580.

Insurance is getting harder to get with over 8' jumps. I was questioned on my recent jump from 44 to 58 and had to submit a resume.

Chubb (formerly ACE) has been great and the only one I have used for boats. I also had quotes from Travelers who I had great experience with on the business insurance side but had a ton of restrictions in use for not a lot of cost difference compared to Chubb. I had two other companies no quote because of the jump in size, they never even asked for a resume.

Ok great info thanks. I'm working with a broker in Florida who is pretty sure he can make it work, I'm anticipating high numbers though. Maybe you could pm me a contact at chubb if you feel comfortable?

Jeff

We got our insurance through NBOA, $2100 a year on a 09 55. You will love the boat, And the 900s are Beasts!!I went from the 450 to the 55 and had no issues on the insurance.

I had been with NBOA for 10 years with a 340 and 410 - no claims. When I bought the 58, they acted like I'd bought the USS Enterprise. Got coverage with BoatUS/Geico (in 2017) for half NBOA's quote. BoatUS has now gotten very expensive after a couple of FL hurricanes and I'm now using Travelers - half the price of BoatUS.

Who is a good Chubb marine agent - one you've been treated well by...

Yea Florida is a challenge; This state is pretty hosed up on their insurance laws making it difficult to get reasonable insurance from any underwriter. A friend of mine just a couple of months ago stepped up from a 21-foot runabout to a new 33-foot cruiser and he is facing $15K for a premium here in Fl. I think he has decided to get a liability policy and self-insure until he gets enough time under the belt. Obviously, he isn't financing the boat.
@jlanka - are you trying to insure in Florida? If so let me know and I'll be happy to get you my broker's contact.

I'll only be in Florida till around May then bring her up to her permanent home south shore long island. Thanks for the offer though

Insurance is tough these days especially since Covid and the uptick in boat sales recently.

Anyway, we had a client in Ohio that purchased a 53 Carver Voyager in Maryland in the winter. This was their 1st boat and they had no experience. They were required to take a course, 2 weeks in Florida since it was winter that was the only place that had available classes, then had to hire a captain that ran the boat for/with them for a short period of time and then signed off that they were good to go.

We use Chubb for our Sea Ray and BoatUS for our Whaler. No problems with either with proof of surveys, but I have a 100 ton licence and over 30 years of experience.

My agent is out of Holland, MI. I'm on Catawba Island in Ohio. I can PM you his information if you're interested.

An expired OUPV might be better than none. Send a copy anyway.

I use Chubb (formerly ACE) as well. The broker is based out of Florida and has served me well. Email is marineteam@bks-partners.com
