2005 Sea Ray 390 Sundancer
Engines
Twin 8.1 S-HO 496's, v-drives
as the title states im looking to purchase a specific 2005 390 sundancer in the next few months.

i have been speaking with the owner constantly keeping him informed of my intentions..

he is in no hurry to sell but will sell it to the right person for the right money, he is also a dealer and this is his personal boat.

Ive done as much research as i can online and am at a point where we will start negotiating price soon within the next few months..

i'm looking to make an offer but want to know what is usually a good starting point on boats in general, 10%, 20% , 40% off asking price? which all a varying from 145,000- 200,000 with diesels making up the higher end boats.. the 2 390's im looking at are roughly 170k, and 180k
(im fine with cars, bikes, jetskis, but boats are a new animal to me)

there are 2 boats in my area, both are close to showroom condition with the bigger 496ho's they both have the same options packages (pretty much loaded) except one has satellite tv (not important to me), the other has an addition 12" display in the dash, both have bow thrusters, roughly same amount of hours roughly 350ish on engines and gen-sets are also low hours depending on boat 90-150. the second one i have yet to lay eyes on personally, but had a friend that was in the area scope it out as its a few hours drive away even though as the crow flies its 35 miles from me..

my other question is, over the past year, what have others sold for in my area so i can figure on if im getting a good deal and also use as a reference to making an offer.. as i know the new model year is coming out soon and the 2005 will be 11 years old verse 10 which im going to also assume is going to be a drop in realistic price..

all help from dealers that have access to "sold boats price over past few months" would be appreciated..

thank you for your time.. feel free to PM me if you don't want to discuss publicly

From my experience it seems the insurance co's have a pretty good handle on a boats worth. Run the specs by your ins. agent and ask what the agreed value would be. The number they spit out, site unseen, isn't too far off what you could sell it for. That's been my experience

Funny you say that my father in law is my insurance agent. He asked me what agreed upon value I wanted, I guessed $160k. Figuring getting a higher quote is better than being too low.
When I insure it, I will make sure more than my loan is covered.

I am a broker with access to sold boat prices. Gassers are selling this year $130s to $150s, diesels $150s to 180s. Hope this helps. Buy the boat, not the price. PM me if I can help in any way.

Thank you.

if you don't mind can email or PM a print out of that.. I might be going into negotiations n the next few days..

Unfortunately, I can't. That information has to much personal data. We are not allowed to print and share. Sorry

Pony, I have the exact model with diesels. The number one thing to do once you find "the one" is get a hull survey and engine survey and a fluid analysis. Have them check out the condition of the heat exchangers, after coolers and Trans coolers. Mine was a freshwater boat, but when I brought it to the warm gulf waters, it began running warm...yep, everything is a bit clogged. $4500-6500 service. In retrospect, I would probably consider gassers if you don't plan on long trips. Also, a dark blue or black hull is only amazing if you have a lot of money or can commit to a rigorous waxing schedule.

I would listen to almostenuff. I have a 360 in a blue hull. She looks amazing for the first 2 months after a full detail. After that, she shows every scratch and water spot. Most people don't see them, but me and my OCD, I see nothing but those water spots. As for gassers... It depends. For me, I think the 8.1's are perfect. But once you cross 40, not so much. More money in initial cost, and much more money in yearly maintenance. I just don't travel long enough distances to justify the cost. Plus I've found that slowing down to 1500 rpm's is a very nice slow ride. Now she will get up and go if needed. Good luck!

thanks for the replies.. the boat im looking at is white.. with HO's..

long trips are going to be limited to maybe once or twice a year and even those trips are only 60-80 miles one way.. for what I'm going to be using it for I cant justify the expense vs fuel savings on diesel..

Is American Beauty what you're looking at?

Yes, that is one of the vessels I'm looking at,
Just curious why do you ask?

I already know what I can get the "other" HO powered 390 for, as I already visited the boat and discussed price with the broker..

I'll be meeting with the owner of American Beauty sometime this week to discuss price.. if we come to agreement ill put a down payment on her..

if we don't, ill hold off until spring and look at a 2007-2008

I have the 8.1 HO,s in my 2005 390DA. The boat performs very nicely with this power and the engines are bullet proof.
Highly recommended.
PM me with any questions.
