New here, from what i have seen it looks like a great group. Currently have a 96 300 with v-drives, havent had a single issue and it has been perfect, just looking to get into something newer.

MY QUESTIONS:
Twin merc 350 I/O's - Not too familiar with the I/O's, I do know they are great for handling, easy to get on plane and a lot quitter than the v drive but more moving parts = more things to break, no?

On board 5kw generator - Generator is a MUST in my next purchase, has anyone had issues with the on board, id rather not strap a unit to the swim platform.

I am truly just looking for some testimonials or pros/cons to assure my purchase. (One came up for sale nearby, going to look at it this week. unsure of hours)

Thank you in advance and happy boating!

JR

The 320 is a great boat and mine, even with v-drives, performed very well for me. Lots of room for a small frame and plenty of storage.

look in the boat specific area, find the thread for 320. When I was researching previously, I read the whole thread start to finish. Took a couple of days, but wow - I felt like I was informed about 320's.

With outdrives you will have lots of room in the bilge which is great. Very happy with my 320. It will perform really well with outdrives and the motors. I/O's are more maintenance is the downside. Not as common on the 320 to have outdrives. Not a lot of downside with the 320.

On board generator is the way to go.

P.S. Never mention strapping a Gen**** to your swim platform on here. If you do go that approach... never mention it either. It's a thread-killer and takes over the discussion. Whatever information you were looking for will get lost in the chaff of the risks of portable unit controversy.

If you are going to keep the boat in the water 100% of the time, inboards are probably preferrable over outdrive for maintenance reasons.

So far thanks for the replies.

Should have stated that the boat will be pulled late fall and spend lonely winter months on land so come spring checking outboard seals will be part of the to do list.

I have noticed, after scrolling the 320 thread, a lot of v-drives in this model. I like their ease but maybe i need to lose them to love them.
