I recently bought a 1994 Sea Ray 330 with I/O and I desperately need a swim platform. I really do not care what shape it is in, as I have a good fiberglass guy that can fix it(if it is fiberglass). I am fine with one that has been used and taken off, or a new one if it is a reasonable price. I have tried swimplatforms.com and several other vendors online, but just cannot justify that kind of money on my boat. If I had a newer model it would be a different story.

If you don't have one do you know where I might could find one or at least somewhere to look?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you have a good fiberglass guy, you could build one. There is a thread on here detailing a custom built platform on an older 340 I think. I also have a 1994 330 and it has a platform from swimplatforms.com, can't imagine not having it!

I have a swimplatforms.com unit on my boat and love it - Great design and works great.

If you can't justify the cost of a swim platform due to its age, how are you going to justify any expenses that com up?

It's a hole in the water for goodness sake!

The quote I got from swimplatforms.com is about 10% of what I paid for the boat, that just seems excessive. Justifying repairs is actually rather simple, fix your boat or you don't have one. I am pretty sure I will still have a boat I can enjoy even if I do not add a swim platform. Besides I can do 80% of any repairs myself and I can get parts at cost.

It's a quality of life issue at this point. If you can't see spending what they are asking and can't find a cheap used one, then you will live with what you got.

I look at it like "Will this improve my experience and will I be keeping this boat a while?" If the answers are yes and yes, then I buy toy or do the upgrade. If not then I skip it.

It's really tough to quantify an upgrade based solely on purchase price percentage to me, IMHO. That means the better deal you got on the boat, the less likely you are to improve it! I tend to use the reverse logic.

I would reccomend the swimplatforms.com one if you can swing it, They are well built and fit good.

The Admiral and I just discussed today how we cannot imagine not having our Swimplatforms.com and how much it adds to the boat. For a boat our age 10% seems the going rate for the added space. We installed ours without ever using the boat on Quint's recommendation and have not even the slightest regret after 3 seasons.

Your absolutely right, I can live without it. But I know it would enhance my experience. I guess my biggest problem is that I am unsure how long I will keep it. Part of my issue is that I do feel like I got a good deal, and I am not certain if I want to cash in on that in the spring and try to make a little money, or if I want to hang on for a few years and hope to break even, meaning I pretty much got to use a boat for free for a few years, other than gas, insurance, taxes, and misc repairs.

To all of those who are recommending swimplatforms.com, I do not doubt any of you that it is a great product. They look great and appear to be very well built, and the simple fact of how many people on this site have this product and I have not seen one person complain yet speaks worlds for them. I have nothing against them, and if in the end I do go that route I am sure I will not be disappointed. I just cannot imagine not trying to find something cheaper. I have to believe there is a totaled boat out there, or a trashed one, or maybe even someone who does not want to fix the platform they have and want to buy a new one from swimplatforms.com that they are taking off and hopefully want to sell it to me!

Just bought a '97 Dancer 250 like yours. Since the existing swim platform is pathetically small, I'm seriously considering a swim platform from swimplatforms.com. Did you do the installation of yours? If so, how easy or difficult was it?

It was on the boat, Looks fairly simple to install though. They now make a top mount also that covers the existing platform and gives the added space on one level. Check it out on the website.

I understand your situation.

I need to repair or replace my platform and would love to buy a new from Swimplatforms.com.
But, just can't justify the cost (5K) of new VS. repairing the damaged one.
Fiberglass can be repaired as strong or stronger than original so, your correct to look for one in any condition.

Happy hunting,

Mark.

I always try to be as frugal as possible. I understand your reservation for just writing the check.

We just had another member (with a 260da I think) that had a custom platform built at a local fiberglass shop. Long story short; they ended up in court, he tried selling the custom platform and bought a SwimPlatforms.com unit.

When a company specializes in one thing, they tend to do it well. Personally, I would save my pennies and bite the bullet.

It's the least expensive way to make your boat bigger.

Finding a used one would be ideal, but that's like hitting the lotto. I've never heard anyone say they didn't like their extended platform.
