Thanks, Bob

I have used Westport Marina in Denver for years. Good people.

I turn my own wrenches, but I know a few people that have had good results/ reasonable pricing with American Marine at 16 and 150.
There are good and bad stories about every mechanic in/around the area. Good luck with whomever you choose.

What does this say about our local Sea Ray dealer, Hall Marine, Lake Norman?

Hall Marine, Lake Wylie is AWESOME! I use them also (it's where I bought my boat from). I haven't really even talked to the service dept at SR LKN. Hmmm, might need to give them a chance. haha

Randy's people are good, as far as people go. I haven't had them do any work for me. Truth is Randy is a liquidator, and for some unfair reason, I don't want to trust them with my newer 06 model Sea Ray. That's not right of me, but it's how I feel. I guess it has something to do with all the junk boats sitting around.

Boat Repairs Plus in Denver, NC is an authorized Mercruiser dealer. Bob Shutter is owner.

Bob does ALOT of Mercruiser test and R&D work on high performace offshore boats. If you go in his shop there is always a huge offshore boat in there being looked at.
It is sometimes hard to get an appointment with them in the spring or fall due to everyone performace minded wanting him to do their work.

You didn't ask for this info, but I'll give it to you for free. haha

If you need glass work done, Mike Digh at Admrial Marine in Denver NC. is your man.
You can see his work, when you see my boat. He did the windlass work for me. Actually he did the nose job and anchor roller.
Shutters shop did the wires and component install. Great job by both shops.

I don't use Hall Marine because they are not on the lake and they charge a haul out fee to transport boats to their yard.

I've used Armstrong Marine when time didn't permit me to do my own work. A few other guys at my marina used them and were happy. Plus they make boat calls.

Bob Shutter is THE man, with Mercruiser. I didn't even mention him because he is crazy busy just about year round. He is in FL doing glass work for one of the performance manufacturers till April last I heard. You really just have to drop in and see if he can get to you in the time frame you need.

you are correct about all the junk setting around! But he is a glastron dealer and has some new boats as well.
Like I said he has done a couple of friends very well over the years.

Well, it looks like I'm going to have to pull the trigger on a mechanic. Starter was getting a little cranky in between uses and sometimes needed to be 'influenced' with a tap or 2 from a hammer  :smt021. This past weekend one of the freeze plugs fell out near the starter so I am SOL until getting it fixed. I'm at a toss up between Workhorse Marine and Westport Marine. Have heard good things about Westport and really good things about Brad at Workhorse.

Any local LKN friend have experience good or bad with either?

I remember & reading the testimonials on their site, he would seem to be an honest guy and reasonable

Tommy has been good to me, BUT he doesn't have a great reputation around here.
He has a team that wants and seems to do things right. Just need to keep an eye on things I guess.

I take my Sea Ray to Westport because I have respect for Brad the mechanics and the whole team there. They just stay busy, and sometimes can be hard to get to work on your boat. They are still about two weeks behind their work load. Meaning it will take a week or two to get to your boat depending on what you want done.
Westport has alot of boats in the dry stack is what keeps them busy.

I'm giving Millers a chance/try by letting them work on my Chris Craft, and Tommys team does full boat restorations. This is terrible to say but, I'm not nearly as picky about the Chris Craft as the Sea Ray.

I really like Boat Repairs Plus in Denver BUT, Bob Shutter is (he yells at me when I say this) expensive! He says he does it right the first time and has very little rework....so in the long run he is less expensive. He has a point.

Scott at Scotts Marine on hwy 150 in mooresville is a good guy....he stays busy also and sometimes is hard to get him on your stuff.

This year is a bad year for trying to get work done because, all the shops have been busy repowering alot of boats from this past winter freeze.
Apparently alot of people took a chance and didn't winterize their motors and then the big freeze got em', cracked blocks.

I'd be interested in hearing about your experience with Millers once your work is finished
