We are eagerly shopping the market for an 2000-2004 290 Amberjack with reasonable engine hours, cherry wood interior and in overall good condition. The market seems to be soft right now with lots of Amberjacks available. We have studied the plus and minus characteristics of I/O vs. V Drives and the biggest concern to us is not the drive config but rather raw water vs. FWC engines.

We want a genset on board and radar (or a price that allows us to install them).

In any case, I would welcome your recommendations. Decision time is a week away right now.

If the Amberjack is available with a fresh water cooled engine I would absolutely go with that. Why all cruisers are not cooled that way stuns me. A $6k Kia comes with internal cooling, why not a $100k plus boat? Salt water is so caustic and you will be facing a $3k to $6k bill every 3-5 years to replace manifolds, etc.
