Hi guys,

As I explained in my introduction in the "Who's Who section" I am 19 years old and now looking to find my first boat. I want a boat which is good looking, preferably with Corsa-style exhaust and fun to drive. The boat will be used in sort of brackish water, and would be used in the sea rather than lakes. The waters are usually not very rough, and our 230 Overnighter handles it perfectly. I'm thinking of a Pachanga 22. Would this be a good first boat? I've always loved the Pachangas, but considered them to be a bit expensive. Having observed the market since last summer, it seems prices have dropped here in Sweden, and it may now possibly suit our budget. Now I'm only referring to the purchasing cost, as I have no idea about the possible cost of upkeep.

I am looking to find some more information about the boat, as I'd be very, very interested in purchasing one. Problem is these boats are quite rare in Sweden, and as of now there is none for sale. As soon as there is, I will go check it out to get a better idea of the boat. However, from reading different forums and such, I have heard that it is a great boat with good engines, however sometimes equipped with the weaker Alpha outputs, which are not sufficient for the larger capacity engines, such as the 454.

Here in Sweden, I do not think I have ever seen a Pachanga with a full-size Camper Canvas or even Convertible Top (which we have on our Overnighter), only mooring covers. Was there a Camper Canvas or such included for the Pachanga, or only the mooring cover? As the weather here in Sweden can be quite varying and shift quickly, it would be a necessity to have a canvas which could be used while driving the boat, in case you'd end up in rain. Furthermore, how is the access to the front deck? I cannot see any type of steps or ladders. Seems a bit troublesome, as we usually tend to dock with the front of the boat first here in Sweden, rather than reversing. Furthermore, there are no holding rails on the deck. I'd love to know if this would be of any issue.

As far as I've understand, there are two models of the Pachanga 22, the latter had the split windscreen and the first model did not. I've heard that the Split windscreen is more durable, and should be preferred. What year was this introduced?

The boat was available with the 350 Mag or the 454 Mag. We have the 5.7 in our Overnighter (however with EFI and digital ignition) and it has not let us down once. Which engine is preferred in the Pachanga? Generally, people say the bigger engine, the better. However, as most of the engines are mated to the Alpha outdrives, I could actually see potential problems with the 454, hence the 350 could be a better option? This is just me reasoning, what do you think? Also, the boat is quite light, and from what I understand, the 454 could make the boat a bit rear-heavy, making it slower to get on plane? This is the case in the 230 Overnighters we have. I do not need the 454's extra performance I believe. However, I wonder if I will miss the sound of the Big-block? Or do they sound very similar? How fast do they plane? I think what I am trying to ask is basically what is the difference between the two in performance, sound, maintenance, durability and fuel-costs?

How would the boat handle compared to the 230 Overnighter we have in our family?

Is it possible to sleep two people in the Pachanga in decent comfort? I'm not planning on staying out a whole weekend, but perhaps spending one night together with my girlfriend in the boat would be nice.

As soon as one turns up for sale in my area I will try to go check it out, as I do what potential issues should I look for? As far as I have understand it is important to check for rotten wood under the engine hatches and floor, as well as the condition of the seats and their mounts. Anything else?

Lots and lots of questions, I know.

Thanks in advance!
