hi all,

I am total Newbie and this is my first boat. I am looking for information about my 2009 Sea Ray 175 Sport bowrider which I just bought. It does not have any covers with it and I noticed there are no snaps for covers. Is this normal? Would it come from the factory like that? I would like to buy covers (tonneau and cockpit) for it..does anyone have any suggestions where to get them?

Also the horn doesn't work, can I put an aftermarket in?

Love this site and been doing some reading.

Thanks,
Greg

I have the same boat. Mine does not have the snap on cover option either but I do have the Bimini shade. You could try Great Lakes Canvas and see if they do the cockpit covers for this model. If they do then you could buy covers from them and have a local shop add the snaps.

This boat is very simple. Did you try tracing the horn wiring to make sure you don't have a connector or fuse issue?

When I was shopping new and used boats a few years ago, I became aware that snap on covers are sometimes dealer installed options. A lot of dealers, even other brands, may be able to make covers and install snaps for you. Be prepared for sticker shock.

The horns on these boats are notoriously weak, (but I've never had a problem with mine despite a handful of serious bow wash incidents - it's always garaged - that may be what saves me). I've seen guys on this forum replace things with other then factory.

Greg - Welcome to CSR!
I have read dozens of recommendations for Great Lakes Canvas and your boat being only 5 years old I'll bet you have no problem finding covers. They even offer a feature that can "find an installer" that may provide you with even more information.

As for your horn, you can certainly replace it with an aftermarket product if need be.

Again, welcome to CSR?

The horn on my 175 sport sounds more robust than the wimpy duck quacker on my 300DA.

Hi all,

Bill, I haven't had a chance to look but when I had the boat surveyed the mechanic noticed it. He wanted to replace it but stated he had to order one from Sea Ray so I assume it is the horn itself. They charged me $525.00 to survey, winterize and change water pump impeller (he suggested this because of year of boat) Was this a good idea and price guys?? seemed high but again a newbie.
Did you put covers on yours Bill as my boat looks identical to yours, same colours Black/White

Thanks for answering guys!! I value your opinions
Greg

Yes, it was $525 well spent, as long as he also changed the oil and gear lube as part of that. Might be a good idea to replace plugs, distributor cap and rotor to get to a complete known maintenance cycle. Parts for that are less than $50. Also you have an L shaped gas tank. So your gas gauge will always read lower than the actual amount of fuel left. I pop the hatch a lot and just look at the fuel level in the tank.

No covers for me. I keep the boat in my garage.

Thanks or the info! I just got my boat back to Nova Scotia from Texas last week and its been freezing..anyways my wife thinks I am nuts as it is above freezing today and I am out trying to wash the highway salt off it with snow banks higher than my chest..lol (she took photos)
I did notice something I wondered about. The steering wheel does not have anything in the centre and you can see the nut holding it on..is something missing??

Thanks!!

hmm..downloaded a parts list for my boat and found it guys. The parts manual says it is 1-3/8" and not stick on :(
Doesn't look like I can find one anywhere online. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the answers guys!!!
Greg

Hey, not like I visit here lately, since we're buried in 4' of snow, so.........
On my '08, it came with the snap on covers. I'm sure it was not dealer installed, and I even remember a tag on each cover. It is parked in a warm garage, so I can take a peak and see who the manufacturer is.
I use the snapons when ever the boat is not in the water and work great for travel. If for some rare reason it has to sit outside, I have another tarp that covers the whole boat.
The site won't let me post pics, so if you want some, just PM me your email address.

You are looking for a steering wheel center cap. Many of the Sea Ray Sport series boats have a "Dino" steering wheel.

Scroll down to the black Dino cap on this link:

That is the cap on the center of my wheel.

The cap is prone to coming off. I found an unlikely solution. Fresh broccoli at the supermarket comes with a heavy thick rubber band. I put the band around the tabs on the back of the cap and carefully worked the cap into the center hole on the wheel. The cap has stayed in place for three seasons, but is easily removed for service.

You could also check with your Sea Ray dealer. Mine was going to order a cap for me when I bought the boat used and the cap was missing. I found it in the boat and cancelled the order.

Good luck!

On mine, the bow cover and cockpit (which also covers the windshield) are made by Great Lakes Boat Top Co.

I didn't look on the Bimini Top cause it's too hard to get at, but I remember it read Sunbrella on it.
