Howdy!
I am a newbie to CSR and to boating for that matter. We bought a 2004 SR 260Sundancer last summer and just love it! With the 5 kids and 3 dogs, that great boat got real small, real quick - LOL.

We are having a 2000 SeaRay 410EC (435 hours) surveyed this week. We like the boat, like the size for the family. I'd greatly appreciate any feedback (pro & con) from anyone who has any knowledge and/or experience with this boat.

We plan on spending a lot of Family Time together on the next boat we buy. I'd rather ask the questions before we buy, than wished I had after. Thanks!
Jenn

Welcome Jenn!

My family and I love cruising L.I.Sound and up to The Block, MV,Montauk, and more. What part of L.I. are you in?

ok a couple of thoughts. the 410 EC only has 1 head. It will be a problem w 5 kids. the 410 da has 2. Is the ec gas or diesel? you dont want gas in that size boat. I know you like the boat for the bunk beds, so you might want to look at the 510 DA  actually the 410 da has a flip down bunk in addition the the queen in the aft cabin. find a nice kennel for the pooches, sounds like your boat is full. God bless and good luck! :smt001

I cant tell you anything about the 410 EC but 5 kids and 3 dogs, WOW.
We have a 42 with 2 kids and no dogs and find the boat just right. With that many kids and 3 dogs maybe a bridge boat would be better. Just my 2 cents.

Both the 410EC and DA are great boats. They are very good performers with Cummins diesels and have no bad habits in the handling department.

I do my own maintenance and I find the engine spaces to be a little tight on the 410 due to the shaft to shaft centerline distance. We own a 450DA and that isn't a problem.

If you are close to a deal enough to be surveying a boat, this may be late, but I would never buy a diesel boat without having a mechanical survey done by a servicing dealer for the brand engines in the boat. you will learn more than the cost of the survey about diesels and the survey may catch or save you problems. Diesel problems are almost never cheap to fix.

You picked a great model for a move up boat..................

I owned a 2002 410EC w/Cummins 6CTa's and it is a great boat....but maybe not for 5 kids. Don't take this the wrong way, but w/one head, short bunks and small mid-cabin with that pocket door closed, I'd be looking at a DA. I loved my 410EC but your gang will require too much gear and space for that boat. If you have bought It allready, I take back everything I just typed-Enjoy!

Welcome Jenn:

I agree with the space issue concerning the EC vs DA. Two heads and the mid cabin on the DA offer more "down below" space. However, the EC, IMHO, has more cockpit space for when you are "out and about". And the engine room, if you like to do your own maintenance, has a TON of space. With the straigth drives you will get some added handling and ride advantages over the DA .

As noted in an earlier post, the DA's mid cabin sleeps three. Two on the pull out sofa and one on the pull down bunk. And then two more in the salon when pulled out.

Look here for some more info...

Are you looking at the EC at MM in Lindenhurst? If so, I also looked at that boat late in 2006. My wife preferred the DA interior and we really wanted the second head.

Either way, good luck with your new boat and ask away....some really good info here.....hope to see you on the water.....

Thanks to everyone who replied! To everyone who mentioned the size of the vessel with the 5 kiddies, **chuckles**, I could not agree more with you regarding the space issue! LOL As of today, we have just so many "pennies" to toss into this next boat. Thankfully, we are not big people and we actually still like each other's company! Wish us luck ;-).

Frank - Great advice regarding the mechanical survey! We had it done yesterday. It paid for itself many times over. Best move we made in this transaction.

Petep - PLEASE say "hello" to Michigan for me. I grew up north near Charlevoix. OMG do I ever miss the FW!!!

Dominic - YUP! It's the EC at MM! We're scheduled to take delivery June 8... at least, that's the plan for today. :) Glad you and your wife found a boat you like.

I'll keep ya'll updated on the progress. It's a big jump, got lots to learn.
Cheers! Happy Boating,
Jenn

Good luck on your closing, that is a great boat and you are going to love it and the way it performs. My 410 EC was like driving a sports car as I always wanted to "let those turbos whine". We love Charlevoix and if you look up the Club Sea Ray Calendar you may recognize the shot in the Municipal Harbor of Charlevoix. (by the way that's my old 410ec docked next to my boat). Post some pictures after closing and enjoy the boat with your family!
