I will be boating out of Boston Harbor. I'm checking into my service options for next year. I know I can use the dealer and that might be the easiest, but I enjoy doing things myself. I have always done this with my cars and motorcycles. The problem with the dealer is that they will not let you near your boat for repairs and other work while it is in their custody. Besides, it can be expensive, especially the things I can do. For example, Hull wash, compound and wax $14/ft, topside wash, wax, and interior vacuum $18/ft. I'd like to do a lot of the winterizing myself to familiarize myself with the mechanicals.

Can anyone recommend a yard between Boston and Plymouth for winter storage that offers storage, all services/packages for reasonable prices, or lets you hire independents to do things, and lets you do some work while the boat is on the stands? That may be asking a lot.

Mike,

May be in the wrong direction, but Essex Marina in Essex fits your description. In addition to being a Mercury and Lund dealer (Lund's are a big hit with the clammers), the yard is pretty informal with DIY within reason and outside contractors being ok. PM me if you want any specifics.

Henry
