Thank GOD I am finally a Searay boat owner. I just purchased a 2002 SeaRay 300 Sundancer! I cannot wait to get that boat on the water.

I need to purchase a chartplotter/sounder soon.............. Help! I need suggestions.

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Jim

Welcome aboard. I personally like the Garmin Line, but I'm sure you are going to hear some points for other too. Where are you boating may want to make sure what type of maps are avl. for your area.

Northstar 6000i. Bought an 8.5 inch for my 30, with chartplotter, fishfinder, and radar and really like it. You will need a through hull transponder for the fishfinder, and it is best to have a dealer install it, as they will have to bore a 2" hole, and seal it properly. One of the newer transponders will transmit at an angle, so that a fairing block isn't necessary. That's the one that I had installed, as it sits flush with the underside of the hull, and is less susceptible to damage.

I also installed a Raymarine A65 on my Whaler, with chartplotter and fishfinder, and like it also. (This boat has a transom mounted transponder). I do think that the Northstar is a better unit. Now, they have other models available, but I'm not familiar with them.
Good luck, and welcome to our board.

Welcome to CSR...you will find good folks with great advise and many opinions here....

Generally, the Who's Who forum is to introduce yourself and your vessel. You might get more advise and suggestions with regard to your electronics questions in the Marine Electronics Forum. When you do decide, our own CSR sponsor might be a good place to purchase....

And good luck with your new Sea Ray......

Welcome Jim, It's great to have another 300DA owner here. I bought a Garmin 2206. Sea Ray has been putting in Ray Marine C70's on the ones from the factory. I stayed with Garmin because I had one on a previous boat and was comfortable with the system. I bought mine from "By Owner Electronics" The prices are very reasonable, and in most cases the lowest. Where are you located and when do you splash? Good luck. Brian
