I was planning on doing a complete rebuild on my motors this winter (170 hp 3.7 liter Mercruiser 4 cyl's) but am also remodeling an old farm house this winter and the budget does not have room for complete remans. Soooo, since both motors have good compression on all the cylinders, I am planning on just doing all new bolt-ons this year and get couple re manufactured long blocks next year. Another year with oil and coolant leaks, but oh well. My question is if anyone knows where I may find a couple distributors for these things. I have not been able to find them anywhere for less than 5 or 6 hundred bucks each. I am pretty sure the complete distributor is bad on one motor because it is real finicky and needs constant adjustment. Also, any moisture near the thing causes problems with backfiring and running right, its been a recurring and annoying problem. I have replaced the wires and plugs... a couple times.

Also, if anyone knows where I can get a couple of COMPLETE re manufactured carbs for reasonable?

Thanks for the Carb link. I have seen them online but hesitate to buy anything online unless someone has personal experience with a company. I assume you give them your seal of approval?

I have the same feelings as you...

I purcahsed a carb from another online source and had a bad experience. Couldn't return it, my fault, didn't read the fine print...........

I know 2 people who have purchaed carbs from them and all they did was bolt them on and away they went. One person had 2 carbs and the other had 1 to replace. I am thinking of using them in a few weeks for mine.

What kind of carb is on the 3.7?

Mark - if you have a 5.7 with a 4 barrel - I wonder if the Edelbrock 1409 would work for you? Brand new they are about $330 and includes electric choke. I've replaced one of my Weber 9600 with one and will be replacing the other shortly. Had to adjust the floats when it first arrived and it's needed nothing since.

Thanks Travis... Where did you find that for $330?

Oh, I see, Summit, Jegs, etc.......

Is there any adapter to go from a spread to a square bore? How about the throttle linkage?

Yep - got mine at Jegs - even had free shipping. Not sure about the bore as the Weber I originally had is basically the same carb. As a result the throttle linkage and fuel line were a perfect match as well.

Adapter....

My carb looks like the first one listed on the website Mark posted, the Y38? Unfortunately I don't think I can just get an edlebrock replacement for it like you can for the 350's and other common engines. bummer.

About the distributor, I saw online on another forum someone mentioned these engines use the same distributor as a 153 chevy - I assume this is the old 120hp 2.5l mercruiser four cyl. distributor with a different oil pump gear on the bottom of it. Since I can't find the 3.7 dist. anywhere maybe I can get one for the 2.5 and "frankestien" the thing together. Any thoughts on that?

Thanks for the links again. I'll call those guys, maybe I can get just the parts for mine. They have the points style system but not the electronic, wierd.
