I have small kids that play athletics so time is a premium.

I know it well. With 3 daughters, all playing travel softball, I have spent many of the nicest boating days of the year at the ballpark.

We have rearranged our commitment to that a bit this Spring, to make more time for the boat. It's a tough balance.

I went to the boat show yesterday and they had a 280DA, but with a single 496. It did have a generator, but I wouldn't say it was loaded. It didn't even have a tv in the salon. They were offering just under $120,000 for that one.

Sounds like you got a great deal for a current model boat. My previous boat was a loaded 2004 280da with twin 4.3s and a genny. It was by no means underpowered. I closed in 12-04 for 100k + tax and warranty.

I boat on an inland lake as well. Within 2 months of use, I had an engine fail while I was a few miles away from my slip. It turned out to be a minor issue, but it was nice to be able to limp home on the other engine.

Good luck on a great boat!

hello everyone,

well closed on the boat on 2-10 got them to include the v fitted sheets and also the rear transom radio remote, due to some misunderstanding on some of the standard included equipment on the boat ( he said there was a tv standard, but this was not a big deal because I was putting in some additional equipment to include playstation's, bigger v hull tv 20 inch and also a trakvision m3 in motion satelite system). The boat is set to be taken at my dock in about 3 to 4 weeks. The boat was great and I appreciate everyone's input it was everything we were hoping for and will be great this summer. The interior was sea ray quality and bigger then I remembered. I will send some photos and put up more info in the next month. I thought I would include the entire option list I recieved to help someone in the future if they were looking at a 280

2007 280 DA all standard equipment

options include white hull no charge
interior B rouge- Sandstone
black canvas
T-4.3L MPI A1 (T-220 PHP)
air conditioning/ heating
bottom paint
camper canvas Pkg
cockpit cover
generator 5.0 kw gas kohler
macerator w/ sealock interlock system
windlass, rope/chain
spotlight, 5" remote controlled
gel coated dash nickel
rear transom stereo remote
v fitted sheets
total with full tank of fuel is 110,640. like I said dont think this is the best deal in the world but it might be of help to someone in the future looking at this boat to know what a average knuckle head like me paid for a new boat. thanks again. toddoo

Congratulations...I know you'll really enjoy the 280. Where will you keep the boat?

I have to decide by saturday. thank you

I don't like that sort of tactic. For me, the answer to any such offer is always no. You need the time to evaluate all the issues that have been brought up here and more. You need time to recover from the beauty of the shiny boat at the show, and think about how you will keep it looking like that on the lake. All the real world issues that will come with the boat.

While there can be some great time-sensitive deals on a boat, it would almost always be on a used one with someone in a special financial/family situation driving the deal. I would urge you to consider carefully all the comments above, and try and resist the 'fever' of the moment.

DON'T RUSH

DON'T RUSH! I agree with Bridog. I am a relatively new boater that bought a 1997 270 Sundancer in March of 06 woth 440 hours on the single I/O 7.4L 454 engine and no generator for $28000 from a Marinemax dealer in Long Island. The no generator was a mistake but the rest was great. I had absolutely no trouble with the single I/O in terms of maneuverablity but it does take a bit of confidence in a strong wind and current and I boat on an open bay. Other than that the single is fine. It took me 4 months of reading, talking to people, going to boat shows etc before I bought the boat. I believe a boat is a very personal expensive toy and you really need to take your time before you make your final decision. If money is an issue than a used boat is obviously the way to go. There are plenty of good ones out there. If money is not than go for it new! Whatever you do, I repeat, there is NO RUSH. Negotiate, negotiate, negotiate and when you think you have the greatest deal in the world, negotiate some more. Take your time and when it happens you will love it as I did.
By the way, I have already moved up to a 400 Sundancer. You see, I loved the 27 but the admiral hated it!! Go figure!
Enjoy and GOOD LUCK!! :smt038

I misread also. :smt009 Thanks to Bright Ayes for pointing out you already have it. Now time to enjoy!

thanks for the emails, and I appreciate all the messages and the new ones posted all are with valid points, I am the biggest spur of the moment person in the world, but we had been looking and planning for over 6 months, the home we have is on a lake with its own dock and I have a slip with lift ready to go. I agree that new is absolutely not the way to go, but after looking online for nothing older then 06 models I thought the price made sense ( atleast that is what I keep telling myself). her name is THERAPY.

thanks toddoo
