Hello all
I have a 1990 180 bowrider that i've had since new. It's been a great boat and has never caused me any grief even though the first 10 years of it's life it was used nearly daily in the summer months all fresh water.
Being 20 years old now there are some things catching up with it. I have to replace the floor around the ski locker due to rot because SeaRay never sealed the edges of the plywood over the fuel tank and then forward around the ski locker. My swim ladder has finally broke due to stress cracking around the holes at the hinge because they were never sleeved or reinforced ect. No longer available part so I will probably have to make my own since none are available that flip up over the swim platform and attach at the bulkhead. Lastly, oil reservoir cap fitting broke and again, no replacement available so you have to buy a whole new tank assembly..... The only things I have done on this boat have been a few water pumps one every 5 years or so, plugs every year or 2, oil pressure cap on the engine mounted tank and new bearing buddies and tires on the trailer. Seats still look great, full top looks great, been a great boat....
Any of you know where I could find a replacement ladder? I am also thinking about updating the guages and such also.
Thanks a lot and I look forward to meeting a lot of you and learning more about parts availability and gremlins that surface on these boats. I've looked at new boats and none have the open and useable floorplan of this one and very few are still outboard which I like for towing weight and maintenance. So, I'll just be updating it instead of replacing it.
Another question.....I added a 100w cd player years ago and have a hard time getting enough current to it... Are there anything you can do short of adding a optima like i did to run a good stereo with an outboard engine? thanks
