I am trying to wrap up negotiations on a 52DB in the Long Island NY area and I am looking for recommendations for a good surveyer and also which is the best Cummins dealer to contact for the engines survey.

Surveyor - Steve Maddock - 631-728-7970
Cummins - Wesco Marine - Bill Stephens - 631-728-9202

I have been using both for the last 10 years - the best in LI. I can bet that Wesco works on these motors already if the boat is in LI

I would also recommend Wesco, was extremely happy with thier service.

The recommendations they gave fell into, do now, do soon, do in fall/winter. He knew we were one time customers, and still listed several expensive fixes in the "soon" category knowing full well I was likely to have those done by my local service guy.

Thank you for the recommendations so far. We have agreed on a price so we are moving forward. Are there any other recommendations for a surveyer? Cummins dealer for engine survey?

Hi All,
Looking for hull and eng survey for purchase in Freeport LI. I will call the above....any other suggestions?
Diesels are Cummins. 2000 420 AC.
Got to move fast to close and move boat to NJ.
Thanks,
Ed

Have used Steve Maddock and Wesco recently and was very happy with both. We used a tech by the name of Ken at Wesco. He was very good as well. Watch the weather as Wesco doesn't work in the rain. Steve will be there rain or shine.

Thanks….called Steve this am. Wesco at the other end of the island. Mako is right in Freeport.

Hmmmmm........what were you surveying Dean? I haven't seen updates on your other thread.

Still looking. Thinking they would be about $1000 each and they are close to double that cost. What should surveys costs be?

ummmm......nothing.....LOL
Got burned by a deal over in LI. still pissed about it. i won't put the guy on blast here but would gladly share the story over a beer. In the end i think things end up the way they do for a reason.

There is also Brian Williams who is about 1k. I've never used him and am not familiar with his work. I think Steve is on the higher end however he is extremely thorough. His report was 26 pages. As for engine surveys i think close to 2k is going rates. I've checked on engine survey costs for CATS and Cummings and they were right about 1800-2k.

Speaking from experience i would suggest not doing both on the same day if you can. This way if you're not happy with the outcome of the hull and systems survey you can save your money on the engine survey. i know the weather window is closing but just my 2 cents.

That is my plan...hull survey in sling first, if passes, proceed to rest of survey. Cummins survey would be after completion of hull survey. Monday is hull survey.

I have used Frank Abbey for the survey for my current boat and the prior boat I owned. I was very happy with his survey. I admit it has been about 5 years since I used him, but he was very reasonable.

Sorry to hear that Dean. Would love to get the whole story over beverages for sure. I was hoping to hear good news but, I agree that things happen for a reason.
