Lofrans Progress 1 Windless

Thanks Bill. So I downloaded their manual and they show the above deck part as having studs, so it looks like you are stuck with the supplied length. That said, I'm guessing the starboard piece you mentioned was an "addition" courtesy of the PO. The manual shows the head bolted directly through the deck.

Also for the Project 1000. Seriously, we are talking about the Progress 1 which is a different windlass, and it's not available. No really, it just isn't :)

The good news (sort of) is that the Project 1000 windlass is pretty close to a drop-in replacement for the old Progress 1. Just a minor mounting hole enlargement required, as I understand it.
Ahh didn’t see it till after I posted my bad!

No worries. I'm ever hopeful that one of these days someone will find a source for these. Seems a real shame to be forced into spending a boat buck for want of a $2 piece of aluminum, but it is what it is I suppose.

Check again. They specifically sell a conversion mounting pad for replacing the Progress 1 with the Project 1000 as the 1000 has a smaller footprint. Read the "reviews & questions" in the following link. That's what I have. What I don't know is if it's required or not or just a convenience for the installer.

Here is the actual conversion pad:

Hi all,
I want to remove the top of my Progress 1 so I can have the 8mm bolt re taped or use an insert. To be safe I think I will bring it to a machine shop. To remove it is it the top 2 bolts and the large blue circle in Boat420 post or are there 4 bolts underneath as well. The drawing looks like the 4 bolts have to come off as well. I am afraid when the 4 are off what will drop down. Thanks for your help!

I'm pretty sure you have to remove the 4 bolts underneath. I don't think you have to disassemble the topside, but I've never attempted it. If you do figure it out, can you cost a how to with pics? That would solve the mystery!

Good info here.
I believe I have the ptogress 1. The tension finger looks like the smaller one in the second pic posted not like the fatter one posted by th OP. Sometimes rope slips and wondering if the wrong tension finger is the cause.

Progress one takes the smaller finger. Easy way to tell if you have the right finger is the bolt size. 8mm=Progress 1 small finger. 9mm=Marlin and larger fatter finger.
