Lofrans progress 1 finger kit

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but my new to me boat (2002 model) has this Progress 1 windlass but the finger looks entirely different. Even the manual shows the style in previous posts. Could it be that someone replaced the finger with a different one? See pics in case I'm missing something.

I see that the base says Progress 1. But that gypsy doesn't look anything like the Progress 1's I've seen. Is it possible your windlass has been modified by a previous owner? The ones I've seen are not as tall (or black in color). They are low profile, metallic. My boat is a 2003 and mine looks like this:

Were you able to take another look at the boat? Is there a set screw holding the stud in place place? It appears you have an older 8 mm version. I have the fingers in stock for $60

I have a Progress One on mine and it is the Low Profile version like yours. TexasPilot’s looks like the Standard version. Rebuilding mine because spring/finger failed and sheared off finger stud. Can’t wait to try to extract that stud.

So which finger do I have there? Looks nothing like the one you manufacture. I need to take the windlass apart. I think the spring is shot but the finger looks good…just doesn’t look like the finger in the posts.
You more than likely have the M8, pre 2002. Once you take it a part you can measure to be sure. Finger is aluminum so it does wear and of course like you said the spring. Rebuilding mine now as finger stud sheared off. Good luck have patience and penetrating oil.

Hello you must be the one who ordered the finger this morning. Thank you very much for the order your part will ship out Monday. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. FYI I recommend putting some waterproof grease on both sides of the Spring when you reassemble it..

Thanks. Had no idea there were different styles.

I bought the replacement finger here, too. Also replaced the spring and my deteriorating 19 year old rode. Now the thing works like a champ!

So here is some information on the repair of my Lofrans Progress One.
Finger stud was sheared off at surface level (no threads were showing). I used a very small tungsten carbide burr ball to indent sheared stud as close to the middle as possible. Then used a 9/64” cobalt drill bit to drill into stud, then a little bit bigger 11/64” bit. Once I felt like I had gone deep enough, I took a
Cobalt Steel Left-Hand Drill Bit, 1/4" Size and carefully insert in hole created and using a variable speed drill backed out the stud. As I stated before penetrating oil is your friend and take your time. No threads were damaged and finger was ordered from Dixon Precision and spring and other parts can be had at P2 Marine. The spring is usually the root of the problem.

I have difficulty keeping the rope part of the ride tight against the capstan. The finger does not appear to be worn. Spring seems ok. Rode is new so hate to replace with all chain.
Any ideas? Width of the finger end? Does Dixon make a wider finger end?

how is the spring? if you put pressure on the finger to the rode (rope) does it grip then?

I just noticed I have a bow picture that I was able to zoom/crop to show the finger on my Progress 1. I mentioned earlier that I bought a finger kit and it was different from the original one, but it fits and works well. In the shadow you can see it is the thicker (wider?) version of the finger. I notice that I installed a stainless washer on the top as well, in the theory that it would pivot easier if there was a washer between the bolt head and the finger. Mine works great, but I have 175ft of chain so the 3-strand seldom sees the light of day.
