Lofrans progress 1 finger kit

I have the Lofrans progress 1 tension fingers. I am selling them as a kit with one flange style button head cap screw and one nylon washer. The price is $60 for the kit which includes shipping to the lower 48 states. I prefer to be paid through PayPal.

Yes, you need a new kit, they seem to be the same from P2 site. I would order the finger from Mike and use an M8 x 40mm stainless bolt over the stud.

I just ordered the spring from Imtra. I havent heard back from Mike Dixon yet but plan to order a finger from him. I will have to drill and ez out or tap the broken bolt.

Phasma

to order the finger, PayPal @dixonprecision (dixonprecision@gmail.com) $60 and do it under "friends and family" great to deal with

put your shipping info in the notes

I also got the spring from Imtra, and the finger from Mike Dixon. Tried to get the stud but it was back ordered, so I also bought the M8 x 40mm bolt. I had a hard time removing the stud which is slightly bent. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions?

Are Dixon’s fingers for the older 8mm spring Progress 1 windlasses? Where can we find a finger for the newer, 9mm spring windlasses?

Does anyone have any advice or tips for removing a bent windlass stud? Since it still kinda works, I tried to remove it without destroying it. I wrapped it with duct tape so I wouldn’t trash the threads, and used vice grips, but no luck. Any suggestions?

He has both now, or you can order his kit through P1marine, pretty sure they have both the 9mm and *mm versions. If you just need the stud, you can use an M8x40mm or an M9x40mm bolt in place of the stud.

If I remember right they are reversed threads. Are you trying to turn the right direction? Sorry if an insulting question but I broke one making that mistake. : )

OMG, no I’m not insulted at all..Maybe a little embarrassed haha! I’ll give it another try - Thanks for the heads up!

If they are reversed threads then a bolt from Home Depot would not work? I am pretty sure I replaced my stud with a bolt from Home Depot too, but I don’t recall. I may be wrong. I suggest using penetrating oil on it for a few days before to let it soak into the threads a bit, and then heat the stud with a torch (not so much that you overheat the main windlass) and then put an ice cube on the stud. Objective is to expand and contract the stud quickly which might break loose enough corrosion on the threads in the windlass to let it loosen with vice grips.

Oh yes, I think you’re right. A few people mentioned using a standard metric bolt. I’ll try your method which sounds good and makes sense. Thanks for the advice.

Standard metric threads. The PO of my boat broke it off in the base, and I had had a hell of a time drilling it out. DO NOT use a bolt extractor! I tried that and I broke it off. I spent 2 hours yesterday grinding it out. I have a 8mm x 1.25 tap to chase the threads.

I would use multiple applications of penetrating oil, and try to add a little heat to the base and maybe ice to the stud to help break it free. You can’t do too much heat while it’s bolted to the deck...

Only took me 2 years to get to get that damn stud out, and still not done.

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but my new to me boat (2002 model) has this Progress 1 windlass but the finger looks entirely different. Even the manual shows the style in previous posts. Could it be that someone replaced the finger with a different one? See pics in case I'm missing something.

I have both versions of the pressure fingers in stock the old pre 2002 has what they call an 8 mm stud and the newer one is a 9 mm stud , but they both have M8 X 1.25 threads. The newer ones have a small set screw in the side of the base plate to hold the stud in place. If you need just the finger you can get it from me fir $60, but www.P2marine.com sells all of the original components and kits with my fingers.

So which finger do I have there? Looks nothing like the one you manufacture. I need to take the windlass apart. I think the spring is shot but the finger looks good…just doesn’t look like the finger in the posts.

Thanks for posting this.

I'm glad to see an entire kit available for the different model years. I need to take a look at my spares and see what I still need.

It is hard to tell from the photo. Does your windless have a small set screw on the side of the base plate holding the stud in? If it does not, it's probably an 8 mm stud that somebody put a different finger on.
