bought a 06 260 dancer. i want to install a tv/dvd player so that we can watch movies and be able to connect a xbox for the kids. anyone have ideas on models and locations that work best?

There's a number of threads on here about guys that added TV's - try the search tool - if it's in a good mood it will cooperate.

However, have you thought about a portable unit from Target for about $100? That way it can used in the V-berth, the mid cabin, up top, etc, etc.

I just bought a 260 and have a 15" LCD and was thinking it might fit above the entrance to the aft cabin - and the DVD player can sit on top of the galley. Can't measure because the boat is in MN and I am in PA...

Not sure of other locations. I have also thought about stowing it and just pulling it out and sitting it in the counter or stove cover when using it...

Dennis - I thought about a portable unit as well - but wanted as large a screen for HD viewing as I could squeeze in (and that was on my 23' Seaswirl). Still might pick one up for more utility..

I have the same model boat as yours and the factory installed tv on mine is a drop down KEC unit (13", I think)mounted on the ceiling in front of the closet door positioned so that you can watch it from the v berth. The TV plays through the stereo system speakers via an FM frequency.

If there had not been one, I would have either;

1 mounted one on the closet door,
2 mounted it in front of the mirror in the bow, or
3 just used my 16" HP laptop which also has an HD
1080p screen and a tv tuner.

With #'s 1 & 2 I would also put in surround sound speakers and with # 3 I would just use a plug in surround sound system for laptops such as the one from Bose I see at Best Buy.

You are probably going to have to mount a TV antenna on the arch and use a digital converter if you buy an analog system.

BTW, nice boat.

Yes - I also thought about mounting on the closet door - but just wasn't sure how it would hold up over time with opening/closing the door. Good location for sure though.

I think i will wind up going with the Laptop route. Use will be limited. not worth the time and money to do a permanent solution.
thanks!

Yeah, the laptop idea appealed to me also. Check out Ram Mounts website for a secure mounting system. I attended a State Police/SWAT team capability demonstration and they used them to mount their laptops in vehicles.
