LKN: How may of us out there?

Where can I dock for the night on the lake? I'd love to trailer down from WNC and stay the weekend without pulling every night. Closest access for me would most likely be from Highway 77 south from Highway 40 or north of Harris Blvd. on 77.

There are a bunch of places that I am sure you could work out something for the night. There are several marinas up off Highway 150 in and just West of Mooresville.

The closest/most convinient marina to I-77 and Harris would probably be Kingspoint Marina. You would go north on I-77 from Harris Blvd and get off at Exit 25 and take a left. You would go 4 or 5 lights (where the Cashions and CVS is) and take a right. Kingspoint will be a couple miles up on the left.

There are plenty of hotels in Cornelius and around Exit 25

There is not a ramp at Kingspoint but for a modest tip, I am sure you could get one of the guys to lift it off your trailer with the forklift. Otherwise I believe there are several other ramps around there.

There is also Holiday Marina farther up in Cornelius. It has a bar and resturant right there but I have heard it is a Charlie Foxtrot as soon as the weather gets nice.

When are you going down? I am thinking about having my boat brought up there for a couple weeks this spring for a change of scenery. Would be nice to get back on LKN for a while too.

Let us know if you head our way, we have only done Wylie, but were planning to check out Norman since it is the same distance from our house in Charlotte.

Thanks for the great info. I'll start looking and planning for a trip this spring.

Jason, good to hear from you again. I trust the family is doing well? I'll give you an PM when I get ready to come that way. Sure would be great to add to the pictures I have of your boat next to mine.

We are at Kingspoint Marina. There are plenty of empty slips. You can launch at Blythe Landing which is on Rt 73 about 4 miles from the marina.

Thanks Jim,
I'll look it up and start planning. Do you have an annual raft up like we did on Lake Keowee?

Here's a link to where we keep our boat: http://www.morningstarmarinas.com/locations/North_Carolina/Lake_Norman/Skippers_Landing_Marina same owners as Kings Point just on the north side... less hectic. Exit 42 on 77 8 mi. south of 40.

Jim, I'll have to give you a shout when I get there. Kingspoint is the marina I am planning on docking at for my spring visit. My 225 was kept there when I bought it. The staff was very helpful the couple of months I was there before with that boat.

Last time I was at lake Norman it was like driving in New York City. Has it gotten better or worse?

It depends on the weather, cold...no boats anywhere. Warm day in the middle of winter...boats everywhere and no one going in the same direction, or speed, or following any kind of rules of navigation! lol

I don't think the "lake" boaters know there are rules.
It's great to be flipped off by a guy, that is pissed at you, when he is running on plane in a no wake zone, because you are in his way going slow! haha

Heck the Sherriff boat pulled into the marina(not to be named, so the innocent can remain so) so fast the docked boats were banging into the dock!

All that said, to me Norman is a beautiful interesting lake to cruise. The views range from dense waterfront mansions to tree lined country side. You just need to be aware that from around the bend there maybe a 100mph go fast, doing just that! OR a bass fisherman in a 21 ft 300hp bass boat trying to keep up with the fastest fish in the world....the lake bass! haha

Was that Sheriff Boat after you? :smt101

That's funny right there but......no. We did ponder the thought though. You know my uncanny ability to rub an officer of the law wrong! haha Big thank you to Chris for speaking out for me.
Ok, behave...that's in the past...I've turned over a new leaf since then. I've found a new respect for the law.

Jason,

Make sure to let us know when you will be coming up.

Regarding the amount of boat traffic on LKN, it actually has gotten noticeably better the past two years due to the economy. Five years ago you couldn't find a wet slip or dry storage in the south end of the lake. Now there are dozens of empty slips at Kingspoint and plenty of dry storage around. Also, many boaters who just don't go out on the water because of the high fuel cost. I hate it for the people that had to get out of boating but it makes for a safer and more enjoyable experience for the rest of us.

Jim

Sea Ray does the Aquapalooza usually in July. We had a record setting tie up a few years ago but the organizers have not done it recently. There are always informal tie ups every weekend at Cocktail Cove which can get quite big and then some more organized tie up parties. Check out this website for announcements when you dates get closer

they had aquapalooza last year at lake normam. it was at midway marina... big turn out!

I may go down and look at her Sunday. I miss her:smt089

You in a wet slip or dry stack? Which marina? Just wondering.

I used to keep mine at Westport Marina, but the rates went up more than I wanted to pay to dry stack. I used the years rental to build a metal building in the back yard to cover mine. I don't mind trailering to the ramp.

Nice boat by the way.

She's in dry stack for the winter and goes back to wet for the season. I'm at Skipper's Landing in Troutman. We (I) use the the boat as the 'lake house". We live just outside of Winston and chose Skipper's for its location. Don't have to get in chaos of Mooresville and 150.

When I lived on Cape Cod I trailered and that got old with the tourists. In by 7am and out by 3pm

Thanks
