Liveaboard

If you are selling your boat, do you plan to move up in size? What type of boat? Express, Sedan, Double Cabin, Flush Deck, or God forbid blow?

I'll admit the notion of being a full-time live aboard sounds pretty romantic. But when I start getting with the reality of myself and all of my worldly possessions onboard 24/7/365 I stop kidding myself. I personally know I need some space.

I’m right there with you. By the time I get a boat that is large enough to have the creature comforts I would want, onboard washer / dryer, work bench / tools, dingy garage, exercise equipment, dish washer, sufficient storage, etc., the darn thing needs to be 90’ long.

Hi.....another liveaboard here as well.....started out on a 27', very quickly upgraded....spent a year and and half on it though.....currently on my 6th year of living aboard...including Katrina and a couple of nasty Nor'easters...it is the best kept secret around.....I still need to down size...2 storage units...1 10x50 and another 8x8.....smaller one is close to the boat and has sesonal gear in it.....

Thinking of selling my house and I am looking at a Chris Craft 501, or a 48 Defever. Not sure how I could live on one any smaller (Doh!). have to down-size a lot and sell the house. Giving this some very serious thaought. Anyone else out there?

We have a few live aboards at my marina here in CT..get cold in the winter.
Both single guys.
One on a 31ft express and another on a older 40ft yacht.
They love it.
I would try it if it was just me.

Lots of pilots living aboard - we're talking boats, right? Not Winnebago's in commuter parking lots? My wife and I plan to live aboard a couple of months a year starting in about a year and a half. We are targeting a 44DB. We did fine on our 340 for a little over a month.

My marina in Boston has three or four year round liveaboards. Shipyards Quarter Marina in Charlestown. They all seem to love it. I believe the marina pipes the water to their boats below sea level to keep it from freezing. Owners run the hose through an electric sleeve that is like a heating blanket to keep the water in the hose above sea level from freezing before getting into the boat.

I agree, they are a great marina but tough to get into. I've tried but they have never had a vacancy. Althought for a summer social life, we love having Tavern on the Water right there at the dock. Good luck with the new endeavor.

We actually looked at a 390MY and it has enough room for a couple to live on easily. All we would need is a storage area close to the boat and a full service marina with short docks, good restrooms/showers and maybe great local eateries close by. I could handle it pretty easy here since we have better weather. My wife actually talked to me about it this week.

Of course I would have to keep the 320DA to cruise around in... :smt001

Would your wife like to marry me...did I hear what I just heard and you are not taking action...would alcohol of played a factor in that conversation..we will get the 39 and you can keep the dancer to tool in around our yacht

I was at shipyard a while back and love the individual berths....good protection too and yes, tavern on the water...we use to meet there 3x a week for our AA meetings

I tried to set you up with her when she went to Boston but there was that little thing about being on drugs for your neck....
