Liveaboard

Not here, I would need a much bigger boat!

My wife and I have lived aboard for the past year and love it. Even with all of the snow we had this past winter it wasn't bad. You can't beat the view and the peacefulness.
Its an adjustment at first downsizing from a house to a boat. Don't think I'll go back as long as we're both healthy enough.
We use ours pretty much every chance we get as well. We're on pace for about 150 hours this year.

What did you use for heat? Any other modifications for living aboard? Are you retired? Did you winterize boat?

We used space heaters in the cabin and I put one in the bilge also.
No modifications. We're not retired. We're both in our early 50's.
The hardest part is getting rid of all the stuff you've got. We put some furniture in storage with some personal stuff we didn't want to part with. We ended up getting rid of all of the furniture and moved to a very small storage unit.
You have to be creative with storage on the boat and use you car as well. We have several liveaboards at our marina so we got a lot of good info when we started.

We have a few other single liveaboards at our marina. I imagine it is much easier that way. My wife has way too many clothes. We have every possible storage spot filled to the max. A small marina is also better I think. Nice and quiet. Ours is small and we're at the far end away from the office and boat ramp.

Winter weather can get bad up that way I bet. Still, you can probably get a good 8 months or more on board. We had decided before we moved on that if the winter was too bad we'd just get a hotel/ motel room for a while. Even with the worst winter in years around here we didn't do that. It's easy to do that with all the money you save from not having to make house payments.

I have a friend that sold his condo and bought a 65ft Hatteras. It’s an older boat and was moored in Fl. He has it moored at Shelter Cove HHI now and lives on it year round. He’s an older gent but has plenty of babe’s hanging off the thing every season. All the comforts of home including big screens, sun decks, 3 bed rooms and 2 heads.
Twin Detroit’s power the thing when he wants to cruise.

My thought to on January and February...Worst case I go to a hotel that offers free in room HBO and massage beds....My older son will be in college so it will be my younger son and I....I do not want a boat that becomes a living condo and marina boat......I want to cruise and prepare for cruising full time in 4-5 years......I was looking at a boat like this....It is a left over 2009 Searay

That's going to be Tony Haywards next yacht after BP finishes paying for all the damage they have caused.

Perfect !!! Very stylish. I'm with ya on the floating condo. The other liveaboards at my marina never take their boats out. We use ours more than anyone at the marina. I want to cruise in a couple of years also. Hoping to go down the ICW to Florida.

wetpaint, now there's a boat a man can be proud of. I love the chimney stack. Wonder what kind of wood burner he's using. Is there a dinghy tender where the wood is stored?

You know you could get a bunch of these and start a floating condo site. Possiblities are endless. :smt038

Once the boat is sold, I will put the money in BP stock and if it goes up, I will go bigger, if it goes down (see above photo).....

Did I miss something? You selling your baby?

I live on mine and love it! I can't remember being this relaxed ever!! Every afternoon after work it's a swim and then dinner and then relax.....ahhhhhh

I also think we should have a full time message board on here for those who live aboard full time or part time too.... I would enjoy learning from others how they utilize their space or other ideas...
Thoughts anyone???
