I'm charting a trip for next summer

The Erie Canal from Three Rivers E to Hudson River
N on the Champlain and Chambly Canals
SW on the St. Lawrence to Lake Ontario
Across Ontario to Oswego
S on the Oswego Canal to Three Rivers

1. Anyone ever travel these waters who might have suggestions?

2. Any advantage to reversing the route and go clockwise instead of anti-clockwise?

3. Do I need radar on Lake Ontario between Oswego and the mouth of the St. Lawrence? (Of course we would only attempt this crossing in the best of weather).

Thanks for any input.

Kevin

Kevin,
We have not been from albany north to St. Lawrence, but it should make for a great trip.
Reversing it would put the current at your back, but doing it as you said would, in my opinion save the best for last (1000 islands area). No you don't need radar for the run from oswego to Cape Vincent (or vise versa). Wait for decent weather or make that run early morning.
If time is no concern, do the Rideau canal, Ottawa river in place of the St. Lawrence, but be sure to visit the area of the St Lawrence from Kingston to A-Bay spending some time if possible in the Canadian National Park Islands. We used to do this area all the time in our 290...
Good luck and have fun

Kevin, When you get to Oneida Lake give me a shout. :smt001

where is Three Rivers E? is that in New York State? near what city? I googled it and it came up short.

Three rivers is where the Onieda, Seneca, and Oswego Rivers come together. The Erie canal shares those rivers. The Erie canal is mostly made up of natural rivers and creeks joined by sections of dug canal. To locate Three Rivers on a map, look south of Pheonix NY and west of Brewerton NY.

Thanks for the comments.
Wayne's World - I'll certainly get in touch when we're in your area.

Ok, You can to stay at my marina for free as my guest. :smt001

And you can get resupplied with food & do your laundry ??

Kevin, when you get to Three River head east on the Oneida River. Our marina is Pirates Cove, we are on the fuel dock. This marina is the last one before the lock in Brewerton. If you come thru on the weekend we will be there. The name of the boat is Dream Catcher - Sundancer 370 with the tan canvas. Maybe we can get together with Wayne's World. I believe he is on the East end of Oneida Lake. Wayne, please correct me if I am wrong.
