I've noticed a slight starboard list on my 560. It could have possibly always been there as the platform was bent and I just didn't notice it. I recently raised the platform and straightened it but it's still noticible.
I have full fuel and water tanks and the blackwater tank is empty with no water in the bilge. I guess with everything I've read on hull intrusion I'm getting paranoid.
It seems to me that the boat is overloaded on the starboard side with the genset, salon TV, and all appliances. I would have thought Sea Ray would have taken this into consideration when they designed it. Maybe I'm just trying to overthink it.
Any thoughts or ideas greatly appreciated.

Hey Jack:

How many inches port to starboard is the list? To (Loosely) determine how much more weight is on the starboard side vs. port, use moveable ballast (crew) on the port rail to see how much it takes to even her out on her lines. The weight of the ballast is the amount of stuff creating the problem, less the lever affect created by the possibilty of a 10K slug of weight one foot to stb vs 1,800lbs added to the port rail (some 9 feet of lever). Naturally the more weight required to trim, the more serious you should be about the issue.

If it's a design issue, it could only be confirmed by other 560 owners.
It takes a lot of weight to make that monster yacht list. Appliances and a tv set sure ain't gonna do it. If fuel tanks are evenly filled that's obviously not the problem.
Is it more than an inch or so?

How long have you owned her? Was there full testing done via moisture meter or IR by a surveyor that knew how to use it prior to purchase?
If the answers to those questions are "not that long" and "yes", I wouldn't sweat it.

If the opposite is the case, I'd have a moisture survey done at next haul-out, just to be sure.

Don't be too paranoid. Summer's here- enjoy!

Mine tends to list ever so slightly to the starboard side as well. I attributed the problem to too much beer in the fridge, and wine & liquor in the lockers...which are all on the starboard side

Thanks for the good suggestions guys. Good useful info.
Boating fool if you need help with that list I will gladly come up and help you drink away your list.
It appears that I forgot to take into consideration the spare prop shaft and wheels that are mounted on the starboard side along with the scuba tanks and other junk I have loaded on that side. Time to do some rearranging.

Jack, I don't remember seeing the list. Did it start after the trip?

Did you have a survey when you purchased her? Did they tap the hull?

Back when your boat was built, I thought Sea Ray was having some coring issues (maybe 2000 and earlier). But I can't be sure if it applied to the 560.

Ken,

It's been there a long time and honestly I can't remember when I first noticed it. I was reading a thread on a core leaking so immediatly that had to be my problem. It's only an inch difference and I think with all the crap I have on that side that's the problem.
I had a complete survey done by who I feel is one of the best( MIke Hagan out of Jacksonville). I walked the hull with him and at that time there were no issues. I am going to have it pulled this winter for some other stuff so I'll check it again.
How's your boats A/C? Do you have anyone checking on the temp. issue? When you coming back to paradise?

Jack

Hey Jack,

We are back on the 2nd through the 14th. My son Brian is getting married on the 20th so I need to be back for that.

The "guys" are looking at the AC & temp issue this week. They believe they may be related. When we sit at our dock, we get tube worms and cochlio (sp?) clams in significant numbers. The diver said he probes up the intakes as far as he can get, but they suspect, that we have some growth blockage.

A year ago, our forward AC went out. They acid washed the lines. I guess that is pretty harsh on the lines so they don't want to do that again unless it is a last resort.

I figured out your listing problem. You need to take off the remaining 20 cases of beer.

Ken

Jack, I think yiu found your problem. If you total the weight of these cargo items (400# maybe) then place them outboard. The lever effect could cause a list.

Simple redistribution of weight maybe all that is necessary.

You know ten cases of beer starboard, ten to port and then consume them in pairs!

Chad,
I like the way you think. I by consumtion will just move the list back and forth from side to side. Hell that's what a boat does anyway.

I have a 2004 420 Sedan Bridge that was listing down 2" to the starboard bow and the port and starboard stern was up 2". The was all caused by a significant amount of water trapped between the hull and the subflooring. My 4 stringers were partially filled with water. I had to pull the boat and raise the bow and drill drain holes in the transom lined up with the four stringers. My stringers were hollow fiberglass stringers and I have solid fiberglass hull and sides. You can call Sea Ray customer service and they will give you that information on your particular boat. I am about to put my boat back in the water and I am hopefull I got all the water out and found and repaired the source of the intrusion. In my case, I think it was the trim tabs which the last screw used to attach the trim tabs lines up with the outward stringers and was dripping water when the boat was pulled. It takes a tremendous amount of weight to make a boat that size list. I would be surprised if spare props and beer would do it. Good Luck.

Our 480 has a similar starboard list and after expressing my concerns on this forum it appears that this is part of the personality (design) of these boats. All tend to have a slight list. I believe it is because the galley is on the starboard side and the gentleman that used to respond to my e-mails (rants) at Sea Ray (laid off, I think) agreed. It does not seeem to effect the way the boat handles.

Jack,
I'd be keen to hear if your rebalancing exercise did the trick. My 560 has no evidence of a list.

Paul

I know this post is old but I had to laugh. I went through the same thinking process on my 480 Sedan this summer. It too lists to the starboard side. I looked at some old pictures and it has been that forever.
