So you see a boat you’d like to get eyes on but the boat is in another state, How do you go about this? I can’t fly, I’m scared to death of flying. I get massive panic attacks.

Well I guess it depends how far away that other state is. You can drive and go see it. Or you can get the broker/owner to do some type of face time process for an initial look. Or you can pay a surveyor to take a first look. Or you can get an interweb buddy to take a look. However, IMO at some point you will need to get your own eyes on it before closing.

True. It’s in Oklahoma and I swear it’s a members boat here. I know I’ve seen the photo of it here before.

Personally, I would pass. If I can't see the boat in less than an hour's drive it simply too much of a hassle. But that's MY opinion. I realize others have different needs.

You could go by train from Richmond to Oklahoma City. $500 or so. The downside is that 45 hours on the train is a long ride both ways. It is 18 hours by car each way. Four hours by air........

Another option is to search for a licensed marine surveyor in the area and hire them to review the boat, let you know condition, and do a video walk through. Yes, it will cost you sone $$, but you will get an educated, objective opinion on the boat.

Or something similar. This could be a good opportunity to take a step towards overcoming that fear.

I had the same problem in my 20s. I eventually flew, didn't die and actually had a great time. Now I love it and the smaller the plane the better.

I never flew, just didnt want to, then my wife wanted to go to Mexico for our 15th anniversary, so my first ever flight was the day before 9-11. Now I love flying, we used to go back to mexico every year, sometime 2 or 3 times, then came covid, have not flown since

To get over the fear of flying watch flying videos, ones from the cockpit, ones from pilots who tell you how a plane works, etc. Get used to the noises you will hear, etc. I don't so much have a fear but I am uncomfortable on planes because I am tall.

If you go out there once, there will be more trips back and forth IMO. Ask yourself if you want to make these trips (the travel costs) and then you'll have to pay to transport it home. Not saying don't do it, just factor these costs/time in.

I agree with the folks who suggested find someone else and/or a surveyor. As much as I like this, I want to put my eyes on it at some point though, before I pay a deposit.

I've been looking at cars on Bring A Trailer. I struggle with the ones that are far away, bidding before I see them. I am a see it, touch it, kick the tires kind of person for big purchases like this.

I'm 6'3".
Exit row seats are the answer.
Keep in mind that no seat will recline in to an exit row so if you have two exit rows on top of each other, do not get seats in the more forward row unless you can deal with not being able to recline.

Same 6'3", exist row is not always available though :) I grab it when it is.

A: Ask folks here if they can help
B: Meds
C: Look at the price diff between coach and 1st class. I'm flying to Pittsburg next month and the price diff was $200. Worth the upgrade to me. I'm 6'4" for you "tall" guys :D

Just my two cents but during Covid 2020 BS lockdown we decided to sell and get a bigger boat. Inventory was low and desirable boats few and far between. I got a good price for mine and then became boatless. The realization at that point was to expand the search but I said stay focused on what I thought was a reliable source. We found a boat in Missouri and went through the dealer who shall not be named but they're everywhere. I got pictures, service records and had a reputable surveyor do the inspection. When the boat was delivered here to NY my yard went over the boat did some minor repairs and we launched. Fast forward to the spring commission we found that the previous dealer had done crap work so I had to pay to have it all redone to the tune of 10K.
The bottom line is NO don't buy a boat you can't physically touch, see & bay test ever!

I upgrade as well and cringe because I have to pay more for being "tall".

Ask your doc for some one time anxiety meds, watch some "how a plane flies" videos and tackle it if you really really like the boat. A good broker will do Facetime and/or a live video with you as well. You could also work with another broker in that area as your broker, representing you, and let them take a look at it. I don't trust brokers in general though :)

When we bought our 44DB in 2016, there were 1/2 dozen or so I was interested in. We left N. Ga and 1st stop was Chattanooga. From there on to Lake of the Ozarks and from there to Mississippi on the way home. We looked at three in a 4 day span. Two weeks later, we headed to FL. 1st stop was Jacksonville, then Ft. Lauderdale, then Pensacola Beach. We made mini-vacations out of the traveling and enjoyed the whole thing. Wound up buying the one in PB.

Hunt for the 420DA took us up into Maryland, then NY, and purchased one in Jacksonville a few weeks late. We enjoyed both "hunts."
