Took a couple days to cruise through the Les Cheneaux Islands and up the St. Marys River to the Soo. That was a nice two day cruise. Left Cheboygan and did an overnight at Detour before heading up the river to the Soo the following day. That would be a nice add to anyone traveling to/from the North Channel.

Thanks for sharing! What a cool spot. I do hope to get that far via boat someday!

Thanks for sharing. It is a beautiful area.
Does it seem as though there is the normal amount of people traveling by boat this year?
We just returned from 12 days and about 500 miles on Lake Erie and the marinas and anchorages were empty weekdays.

I would say travel by boat is down some, but the most popular destinations seem to be busy enough although not crowded. We were on Mackinac Island without reservations right before the yacht races and there were empty slips all four nights we were there. Everywhere else I've been between Cheboygan and the Soo has had ample space for my 33 feet. Seasonal dockage appears to be full. It's the transients that are missing.

Thanks for sharing, what a great spot. Must have been a nice couple of days.

The marinas were full during my two week trip up and down the west side of Michigan two weeks ago...

IIRC that cruise ship goes to Duluth MN and Bayfield WI. Haven't been lucky enough to see it mored in Bayfield.

Thanks for sharing, we plan on exploring the North Channel next summer and perhaps the Soo as well. Great Pics.

Please explain "The Soo". We are supposed to explore the North Channel next summer with some friends who have been there and we are gathering info.

You're from Wisconsin and are unfamiliar with the "Soo Locks" between Lakes Huron and Superior? "Soo" is just short for Sault Ste. Marie. If exploring the North Channel, you'll likely be in the waters north of Manitoulin Island. Blind River, Spanish, Gore Bay, Little Current and Killarney are the primary ports with the Benjamin Islands, Baie Fine, Covered Portage Cove, Collins Inlet and dozens more the popular anchorages. That said, the cruise I made through the Les Cheneaux Islands and up the St Marys would be a nice beginning to traveling east into the North Channel especially if coming out of Lake Michigan if one had the time. The trip to the Soo would probably be considered a "side trip" to a North Channel cruise. The North Channel is spectacular cruising.
