I currently own a 2005 280 sundancer and I am seriously considering moving up to a 2007 320 Sundancer. My dealer contacted me today saying the price of the 320 was slashed 15k from Sea Ray on incentives. The deal he is giving me is 72k on the trade and 193k on the 2007 320. Isn't that high for a 320 with 350 vd and no genny. MSRP 258k. Any thoughts?? Thanks.

I'm far from an expert, but doesn't sound like a screaming deal by any means.

The price for the 320 is too high depending on options. Tell us what she has in detail. The 280 trade in seems too low.

A good deal would be $165-$175 for the 320 and $85 for the trade. A great deal would be something else.

I missed that it did not have a genny. Therfore I change my number to $150-$160 for the 320.

The '07 320 is a really nice boat. Is it worth *3* of the also nice 2005 280's?

In any event, I think you can do better on the numbers esp on the trade value...

The problem with the trade is they know I paid 80k for it last year since they brokered the deal. As for the 320.....it has twin vd 350's, smartcraft, head upgrade, sunpad, wide screen tv, raymarine c80 with radar, cockpit refrigerator, upgraded head, central vacuum, white hull some with gen some without. He said price would be about 5k more with gen. There are at least 15 320's left at my dealership in Long Island. Most msrp from 253k or 263k depending if they have the genny or not. I was thinking the 150 -160 range also and then give me 80 for the trade in. I know they will flip the boat for 90 since it is a popular model.

I wouldn't do this deal at this money at all.........My problem isn't so much the financial side as the fact that I hate to see buyers move up and not move to a substantially bigger boat.

I think a 340DA would be the boat to try to make a deal on for a 280DA owner. The 6 ft. increase in length and 2.5 ft. in beam will keep you out of the boat store for a good long while. If you buy the 320, we'll be here this time next year when you ask about moving up that left over 340DA!

My other problem has to do with pricing. As I understand it, the 320 is being dropped for 2008, so the boat you are looking at is a lame duck. When the show rooms have 33DA's in them, the 320 should be very heavily discounted, and I don't think you are there yet.

But, the 320 and 340 DA's are 2 of the best mid-sized express style boats Sea Ray has ever offered.

I wish I could spring for a brand new 340 but it's a little out of my reach right now. I was banking on the 330 which is soon to arrive in showrooms to drop the price of the 320 and that is why I was shocked when he told me 193k for the 'discounted' 320. I figured I could get a nice sale on the 320 and that is why I targeted that boat model

I don't see how them brokering the boat last year has anything to do with it. If you purchased it below market that should benefit you, not them. Forget what they think and stick to the numbers represented here. I agree with Frank, as nice as the 320 is, it's a dead boat walking.

Last year I got 90k for my 2 year old 280da on a trade to a 1 year old 340da. I was initially looking at a new 320da WITH a genny for about 160-170k.

I think you can do better.

My $0.02

320

Though I opted for a 2005 320, my Sea Ray Dealer was pushing to sell me a new 320 3 months ago for $185, White Hull, Underwater Platform lights, 350 VDrives, central Vac, and genny...Would not buy one without a genny, but also would not pay $185 for a 2007 when I could get the blue hull I wanted in a 2005 for over $40,000 less... I also would have gone with the 340 if my budget would have let me , but I love the 320 and the price I was able to get it for.

Whatever you decide, good luck, and let us know...

"Dead Boat Walking" Wow!! :smt101 That is hot!!!

Great one there Mike. :smt038

DCWJD - Frank will spend other peoples money for them with a smile. He does it very well and has great advice in the fact that if you are going to move up take a look at the long term.

I have a 220SD and under orders from the Admiral that any move up is to a 340DA or nothing. :smt089 I could not agree with her or Frank more. I have been all over that boat and love it. Unless you just have to have new take a strong look at the 2-4 year old market. Good chance you could find a slightly used 340 for what a 320 would cost you.

LEFT OVER 07'S

I don't know a lot about boats. I have been looking all over in my area and this is what I have been quoted. I started out with a
07 260 then 06 280, 07 320 and now I put a deposit on a 06 340.
The 260 price was $82000.00 & 280 was $85000.00 (82 hours). The 320 $165000.00 and 340 (92 hours) $179000.00 (I'm not done with the nog. on this one yet). I have talked to at least 20 different salesmen and private owners and all the prices are so close. All the boats are loaded down and some had the extended warranties. I believe this is a good time to make low offers. mostly all of the private owners were in the housing and mortgage business and the are dumping their toys.

Where are you located? I just got a call yesterday from a large Sea Ray dealer in Mississippi who just got an 06 320 in a trade with about 50 hours loaded including radar, and is looking for around $150...I had talked to him before I bought my 05 320 (I'd ship from anywhere if the price is right including the shipping) but he had already sold the 05 I was interested in there..If you want his info let me know...

As a point of reference, last August, I payed $215K for a leftover 2006 340 (including $10,000 in SR incentives). I was pretty well optioned with:

Radar (4KW dome)
Gen
Central Vac
2 flat screens (salon and aft flip-down)
SS windshield frame
Smartcraft System View
Greywater
Sunpad
Remote spot light
Nickel dash
Colored hull

I think it listed around $315 - 320K.

My self I can not see why any one would ever buy a new boat.
I just picked up a 2003 300DA with under 70 hours on it, It's as close to new that I could find. The ask was 109K dropped to 99K in March this year. They took 79K plus the first years inside storage, It was a brokerage boat.

My thought is sell your boat your self and go for a year old, A little shopping saves a ton of dough. Just my .02

By the way the marina that sold me our boat has a 06 320, Winter is just around the corner. Make them a offer.

Class, comfort this is one incredible boat. From the underwater swim platform lighting to the 3, yes 3 flat screen televisions, vacuum system, ice maker, posh seating, cockpit wet bar, refrigerator……I could go on about the bonus’ of this boat. Come on out, take a look and you will be amazed.

I never owned or ran a 280DA. I went from a 260DA to a 320DA, then to the current 420DA.

None of these boats were new when I bought them. They were all 2-3 years old, lightly used. The 420 had been sitting in a salt water slip for 9 months with zero cleaning, so she took a lot of elbow grease to get up to standard. The Cummins only had 107 horus on them, the onan diesel genny only had 89 hours, and we were able to deal hard in February 2006 when the boat did not go at the DC/Northern Virginia/Marlyland Boat Shows.

I liked the 320 I owned, but for us the 420 is a far better boat for the family. We recently ran nearly 400 miles over a five day span. I probably would not have done that in the 320.

I'd encourage you, as others have, to look hard at the used market. You have a really popular boat and you certainly can sell it yourself, then deal from a really good position as a cash buyer with no trade on the clean used boat you want..

I can absolutely Ditto that ... I would not consider a 320 and move to a 340. IT has quite a bit more space in some important areas, e.g. the v-berth which is rdiculously smal on the 320 ... at least for a guy like me at 6'4". We went from a 24 foot express to the 340 and now after a year are looking into a 380 to 460. Main reason is not the cabin and the cockpit, but the galley and the head with separate shower. Bigger than that gets difficult on the lake as it limits your options to dock and you need a dinghy.
