LED upgrade

Just upgraded my 2005 390MY salon with these LEDs that cost $0.99 per bulb. These lights provided the same as the original lights and the switch was simple. Pulled out the overhead fixture, pulled out the bulb and replaced with a single warm white LED - purchased lights from ebay. Search for:

G4 Warm White 1 SMD LED Bi-pin Base RV Camper Boat Light Lamp Bulb 12V

Hope this helps others.

Do you sell these?

Beware of cheap Chinese made LEDs.

They can get hot and cause fires.

No, I do not sell them and have no benefit - just sharing a good find and something that worked for me.
As to heat production, can not get much hotter than the halogen bulbs I replaced. The halogen bulbs were super hot when they were on for just a few minutes.

Yep those .99 er's are cheap made in china led's.

I would spend a couple more bucks and get some good LED's it's not worth a fire to save a couple bucks.

Sorry if I misidentified you as a spammer. When we see someone make their first post ( 2 actually) recommending a product it sends up a red flag.

I agree halogens are hot and is one of the reasons I went with LEDs. Here is a pic of the cheap LEDs I bought that nearly set my boat on fire (I have removed them and bought higher quality LEDS):

No problem - posted twice by accident. Now you have me concerned. How long after installing them did you have this issue. What brand did you use or where did you buy your better quality LEDs?

I installed the cheapos from Ebay a year ago and have had no issues. I bought all from one vendor there. After installation, I monitored them very closely for heat as mentioned above and they are running very cool. You would not know it was on if you had to depend on the heat to tell you. So far, I am very pleased with them though, they were more than $0.99.

Re: LED upgrade

That's a great deal!

We did our whole boat a few years ago with bulbs we got from "China". It was a great savings, but not this great!

We haven't had any issues with the led's we installed a few years ago that we purchased directly from a vendor in China. A few boats in our yacht club have also used them with no issues.

I noticed the first day they got very hot. The following weekend at the boat I observed smoke coming from several of them. I removed them and found the severe heat damage shown in my pics.

I bought replacements from marinebeam.com

Your LEDs should not produce any noticeable heat. If they do I'd remove them ASAP. IMHO

I replaced every bulb on my '94 330 dancer with high quality US made LED's from a South Carolina company called MarineBeam.. Www.marinebeam.com I couldn't be happier... It was expensive though... Over $600... I did all nav's, cockpit and cabin lights... I highly recommend marinebeam...

MojoHaiku, What P/N for the head and galley lights?
Did you replace the fluorescent lights under the galley cabinets?

I did this a couple of years ago... Will have to go back and research the PN's. I have all the bags the bulbs came in so I should be able to find them... I replaced the galley fluorescent with two aftermarket light fixtures and put LED's in them... In the head, I used these really cool flat LED's.. Nice warm color... I'll try to find the PN's... MArinebeam website is pretty easy to use too for replacing / converting standard bulbs...
