Anybody replaced their red/green running lights with LEDs? Although we're rarely out at night, last weekend I was checking my lights and saw that the greenie was not working. I tried to change the bulb and the whole thing just fell apart. The white plastic housing is fine, just the lens and insides were history. I've had trouble with this particular one since I've owned the boat so just opted to get both new red & green 2 mile LEDs. Just wondering if anyone else had LED running lights and if they were happy with them.

You may want to be a little careful. I ordered LED running lights and they were MUCH brighter, however, instead of red and green, I think I have pink and turquiose. Carter Chapman found the right ones (two to a set) and is ordering replacements for us. But you may want to wait just a bit until the experts chime in...unless you go for the Halston designer running lights look.

Anchor light is LED...don't care about running lights as the alternator is providing juice. The intent is to draw as little power as possible while on batteries. Every DC light in the cabin is LED with the exception of the lights in the hanging lockers and that is only because I have not found the right size bayonet LED. My lights draw almost zilch when we are anchored out for the night. Now I need an LED fridge !!!!

I would love to replace my old running lights with LED's. They're brighter and use less power. Iv'e replaced almost every 12 volt light in my boat with LED's but my old running lights are large, rectangular and and 2 mounting holes far apart. I cannot find a new fixture that fits the old holes.

Do those LED's fit the Perko A16 footprint?

The documentation is unclear.

I have a bad light. . .no longer watertight, and I burned out a bulb when running in a thunderstorm a few weeks back.

Just make sure the replacements are Coast Guard approved. You could have a liabilty or insurance issue if they are not. MM

I replaced mine today with these:

Didn't take a pic but will get one later. Next step is to try them out Saturday evening. Hope they're not "pink & turquoise" and I don't know what "the Halston designer look" is. Can you elaborate on that, JediJD? LOL!!

Those are the ones I will be installing as well. They are basically the direct footprint replacement to the Attwood NAV lights used on the later model Sea Rays, maybe 2000+ ?

Just replaced my nav lights with the Attwood LED's. They are a sealed unit and fit the same footprint as the OEM Sea Ray nav lights. The cool thing is when the lights are off, the lenses are both clear. When lit, green and red respectively. Just go to the Attwood website and go to LED nav lights.

I'll give both those options a try. When pulling mine out to inspect, there was zero give in the wiring. In fact, I was worried that it was SO taut going back into the bulkhead. With so little room, I was inclined to replace bulbs rather than fixtures...but I'm flexible.

As for Halston...it struck me that the ultrabright LED's I used last time took the bright and effective reds and greens and gave them a swishy DesignStar pastel instead. I accuse the Only Mate of delaying their replacement (by manipulating both the adult beverages and the repair priorities) so that she can keep the colors matching her comforter instead of actually alerting surrounding boaters of our course and attitude.

Here's a pic of my green light. Very nice looking I must say. Lens are clear till turned on. On my boat I had to fill the old holes and drill new ones as the footprint was opposite. You will need butt connectors so have some ready. It comes with a gasket where the A16 Perko had none under it. AND, the colors are really "red" and "green" and pretty darn bright. I like 'em. It also has a handy little indicator light on top to let you know the lite is on. Why? I don't know as you would be able to tell it's on at night anyhow. It is USCG approved.

I hope to eventually replace all lights w/LED but I'll get to it when I get to it.

I replaced mine with those Attwoods last year. Pretty descent lights but I thought that the SST cover is a little thin and chincy.

JediJD - I thought the same thing but found that the wire is siliconed into the hole. I removed the valance panel in the front stateroom and there is plenty of wire in there.
