Bought an led light bar to replace the old 12 volt oem light bar in my 340.

when installed noticed a distinctive flicker. Bought two and both do the same thing. Voltmeter says 9v on supply wire with a good ground. What am I missing?

Read something on line about maybe needing an LED Driver. Anyone know about this in a DC 12 volt application?

if you have 9 volt on a good known ground then the problem is on the positive side.Start voltage readings at the fuse that feeds the circuit remember clean and tight makes for a happy circuit and all the lights are daisy chained in that circuit. From the fuse to the switch to the lights

It is gonna be in your ground bad conection chased my tail yesterday wire the the light bar in droped to 5.5 volts after taking everything apart 3 times was a barrel conection. Good luck i know it can drive you nuts. been there Jim

What I dont understand is that the LED lights work on lower voltage than 9 volts...why the flicker? Do I need a voltage regulator or "Driver" for for LED in a battery application?

loose connection could explain low voltage and flickering.Any way you go about it you should have 12 volts with your motors not running.

Ok. You guys were right on track. Flickering LED bar caused by low cabin voltage (9v) caused by weak batteries (11v)caused by weak alternator (8v at 1200 rpm) Also found loose connections.

LED flickering stopped at 11 volts.

So, an optimist would say problem solved and several issues properly addressed...the Admiral says "let me get this right...a flickering light costs $500 in parts and half a day of your own labor?

I said honey ...we are now baptised members of the Hole In The Water gang!

thanks guys for your help. Ive learned 2000 mile truck transport caused failure in every weak link.
