Greetings All, I have a leaky porthole on starboard side (porthole in head) which leaks from the top/middle during hard rains. I removed the assembly, cleaned, and applied marine sealant. Still leaks during hard rains. Is there supposed to be a gasket between the assembly and the boat? There seems to be room and a channel exists that seems to warrant a gasket; however, no gasket on mine. I did not use a caulking gun but did apply a good bead of sealant to the assembly and fiberglass after cleaning

Suggestions?

2007 280 Sundancer.

I have a small leak as well. The water on mine comes through the small plastic "lock" at the bottom of the window. That's the black tab that you use to tighten the window. Not sure how or where it finds it's way there but still haven't been able to stop it. How hard was it to get the window out?

The window was easy to remove in 5 minutes, Phillips screws, and there is a chrome ring that separates from the main assembly. Have someone on the outside who can pull the window off the boat so it does not fall.

The portlight should not just fall out after removing screws, it should be bedded in about a full tube of sealant. See these 2 posts one is my boat the other shows step by step.

Thanks for the reference. Mine did not have a gasket; not sure why. I am going to look for a new gasket and try this again using more sealant.

Any luck finding a gasket? I have a 280 Sundancer and have leaks in 2 of my portholes but I'm having the hardest time finding gaskets or replacement parts online.

You can contact Bomar for the gasket & new style screen that pops into a groove at
http://www.pompanette.com/bomar or contact your Sea Ray dealer.
These are the screens and gaskets I used after contacting Bomar.
I can determine that the screen and gasket kit you need is the P100-04-RETRO. They are $25.00 per kit. We can ship in approximately one week. You may order through your local distributor or through our Customer Service Department at 603-826-5791.

I ordered the gasket from MarineMax, they said the gasket is foam and sold by the foot... However, they did confirm that this is the part for the portlights that open on the 280DA. I should have it in a few days.

I replaced my gasket. Now the leaks are worse than when I started. I ordered two gaskets first time. I'll be tearing out the one I put in and will put in the other one.... Frustrating.

Sounds like a winter project is in store. I just deal with it now since it's in the head and the little bit of water flows down into the drain.

Are we all talking about the same gasket or are they different? I ordered what MarineMax calls a foam gasket sold by the foot. "Bob & Sue" mentioned a gasket/screen kit that sounds like a newer style (web link did not work for me).

I'm wondering the same thing. I have an 05 and his is a 99. Wonder if the windows are different?

Thanks Bob&Sue. I'm waiting on a call back from BOMAR right now. Meanwhile I looked through the parts manual as you recommended. I was being lazy, since my manual is at the boat. Most of you probably know but I didn't even think to download my manual from Searay. It was easy and I found what I needed regarding part numbers pretty easily. If it helps anyone else with a 280 Sundancer: PortLightDetail.jpg

My screens are removable. I open the porthole, install the screen and then pull the screen out to close the porthole back up. Your diagram is different than my set up.

Yeah, my screen is the same as you mention, a pop in. However, I think the only part I need to replace right now is the portlight gasket. My local Bomar distributer is double checking the part number so hopefully I'll know soon and hopefully it takes care of the leak.

Please post the gasket part number and if this cured your leak. I'll need to do mine here soon as well. Thanks!

I used the Sea Ray part number of 1331735 when I called. I also provided the Sea Ray part number for the portlight itself for reference (1454008). The parts guy was able to cross reference with BOMAR to order the right gasket based on that. I'm not sure what BOMAR's part number is though. The gasket alone cost me $18 x2. Bad news is I have to wait 6 weeks for the part. I think I'd rather do that though than order anything generic by the foot just in case. This gasket it made specifically for this portlight and comes with glue one one side already. I'll touch base again once I receive the part and replace it.

Has anyone resolved this issue?
I have a 2004 340 Sundancer that had the head porthole leaking after rain but not when hosing it down with water. I had the marina replace it last year in mid July. I had no problems until this past July when it started leaking again. We do not use the window in the porthole. I had them replace it again and asked if they could add a little silicone to make sure it seals this time. No luck, it still leaks. If anyone has any other ideas PLEASE reply to my post.

Thanks In advance
