Tom I need a bit of help understanding things.

Im leaking fluid but I don't see any in the bilge or the water behind the boat. I'm refilling the reservoir about once or twice a month. It seems to be mostly when I've been out and running.

With your help I have rebuilt the actuators and replaced the leaking fill cap. Could it be leaking past the O rings as the water pressure builds against the tab plate? Is it time to replace the actuators or maybe up grade the complete system? My system is the original system from 1988.

Thank you, George Williams

Hi George,

If you put both Tabs fully down and leave them there overnight (or longer) and see if one or both retract. That will tell us what side (or both) has the problem. I have seen where the pipe nipple that goes through the transom has corroded and starts leaking into the core of the transom. You will not see fluid in the water or bilge if that happens.

You can try replacing the nipples the next time the boat is out of the water.

The upper part of the actuator where the nipples screw into may be damaged as well.

So if you want to be sure you have everything on hand you could replace the nipples and actuators and get another 28 years out of them!
