Leaking rudder packing glands

Could someone direct me to information regarding - How to repack the rudder packing glands. Does the boat have to be out of the water? I'm getting some leakage around the rudder, any other causes ? It gets worse when I make a sharp turn while underway. I have a 1995 370 Sundancer.

real easy. you could save the season and do it in the water. There is a gland nut and a lock nut. Tap them both with a hammer on the sides. this will free then up. Have a ring of packing ready, take off the gland nut, lay in the packing. Put the nut back on. When you haul the boat for the winter, remove all the packing and do a proper job.
