I boat out of Southern NJ, and as you can see I'm the only nut job at my marina who launched his PWC on Tuesday 4/6. Since then, I've burned no less than 3 tanks of gas zipping around in my: 3MM wetsuit plus full rain gear over top. My lifejacket is in between those two layers. And of course I'm doubled up on my neoprene socks, and wore some 3MM neoprene gloves. And a gaiter for the head. After I returned and took a hot shower I then took my Sea Ray out and watched the sunset from the hook. Had to pack in all my fun on Saturday because Sunday was a total rain out. Spring has sprung!

Sit downs don't count! You've got to get out there on a SuperJet. Now that would be cold! In my younger days I used to jet ski from March-mid November on my various stand ups. Fast forward a lot of years and I have become the biggest wuss ever. Can't be too cold, not too hot, shade but not too much, etc. I'm zero fun!

Hysterical!! Listen, I’m truly impressed about your younger days on that stand up rocket in frigid temps!! If you did that then, you earned the right to be a “wuss” which you are not, of course!!! I have never fallen off my sit down PWC, but I’m like a Boy Scout I always aim to be prepared for the worst which is “wussy” of me. To that point, last week I passed by the girls’ high school crew team near Atlantic City (Mainland Regional I think). It was an 8 girl crew boat and they were in just t-shirts and no life vests. Those crew boats are so sketchy and unstable. So I felt like a wuss in all my gear as I passed by, at no wake mode, showing respect of course.

Ok, full disclosure. I bought 2 SuperJets last winter, 1994 models and decided i was going to teach my then 15 yr old son how to ride. Countless hours buying wetsuits, booties, gloves and all the safety gear to ride starting in April. March 1 rolls around and I decide to play full court basketball for 8hrs with my kids and cousin who is in town and then goto the parents kids basketball game later that night and play some more. If you haven't noticed from my time spent on here I tend to hyper focus and go all in. Well, who knows what I did but I "pulled my back" and gave myself plantar fasciitis, all in one day.

Spent the next week in bed thanks to my back and when I had to get out of bed it was amusing to say the least. Tried to jetski once in early May and the pain was too intense. Got home, sold the Jeep (which I bought to tow the skis) and the 2 skis. Here we are 13 months later and my foot still hurts and my back is absolutely not back to normal.

It's hell getting old. It really is.

Ah jeez, sorry to hear, that’s terrible. 2020 was not good for me either. I bought my PWC brand new in January of 2020 and due to COVID production shutdowns didn’t get to take delivery until 6/25. Then two weeks after that I nearly dropped dead from massive pulmonary embolisms in both lungs, and clots also in both legs. Doctors were shocked I woke up. Couldn’t ride the ski for a while after that so probably why I splashed it so early this year. Be glad you’re alive! You’ll get back up on that horse again soon! Take it easy until then!!!

Last week on the York River. Water temp was in the mid to high 60s. Beautiful!

PEs are no joke. Did this happen in the Somers Point area? If so did they have to transfer you? Lots of different ways to treat them and with the clots in your leg they may have decided on placing a filter in your IVC. Shot in the dark here but with that clot burden in several locations something must have been up with your blood work/labs.

Glad to hear all is well and you recovered!!!!!

Thanks, me too. No happened back home near Cherry Hill. I passed out after climbing one flight of stairs at work. It’s all on surveillance camera! Due to Covid I was the only one in the office too. I was out for two minutes and when I woke up I thought I was home in bed sleeping. Went to Penn ER in Philly and got admitted there for 3 days. No filters because they already got to my lungs so prevention was a moot point. I did my convalescing for many weeks on the boat within spitting distance from shore Memorial Hospital in Somers Pt.

All my blood work was normal and I tested negative for all known genetic markers. And I’ve been CT scanned and tested all over looking for cancer as root cause and so far all negative. In hindsight I think I had the clots in my right leg for at least three years. I thought the pain and swelling I was having was a recurring muscle strain from too much distance running.

Here I am. The video is frightening. Made all the doctors’ jaws drop and speechless.

James, a little south of you in Ches bay, same water temps, anxious to get my zodiac on water, but concerned about water temp, hypothermia. Advice?
I was wearing a full wetsuit today. I wouldn’t chance falling in water that cold without one.
