This July we will be at the MGM Signature. We need to get to Nellis air force base and back.

Dollar car rental has a car rental place inside MGM but it’s going out of business at the end of June, just before our trip.

I guess I could pay for a cab to the airport, take a shuttle from the airport to the off-site car rental place, drive back to the hotel then do the opposite the next day but I’m hoping someone here has a better suggestion.

This is my first Vegas trip so I am a Vegas newbie.

You may want to try Enterprise. They might deliver the car right to your hotel. I think there is a location about a block north of your hotel on Flamingo. Have fun!

For your plan A there's no need to go to the airport - you could just taxi straight to the offsite rental place. Most of the big hotels have onsite car rental. NYNY, Monte Carlo and Excalibur are easy walks and many others are not much further.

July/Aug is the worst time to do Vegas. Plan to spend time in the pool.

Just my personal opinion, and no offence intended, January thru December are the worst times to visit Las Vegas.

We are going for a wedding. Wife's side of the family.

It was going to be out east but now it’s a Vegas wedding so we are flying our entire family.

……and to think how just a few years ago over Christmas I was upset with my wife sending her parents via Fed-ex overnight early delivery a homemade Dutch ethnic loaf of meat pancake as a ‘thank you’ gift exchange for them sending us from Florida a box of all natural, chemical free, dull, spotted, dingy, dry, rotten oranges.

Oh, apparently I don’t like sex as often anymore either. WTF?

We’ve come a long way baby.

I personally refuse to take any part in destination weddings. I feel it's narcissistic with delusions of grandeur for someone to expect a couple of hundred friends and relatives to spend money on air fare, hotels, food etc... not to mention a wedding gift because they want to have their wedding somewhere far from home. I get about 4 weeks vacation a year I refuse to be told how I use it. I don't know how this nonsense began. When they get divorced 2 years from now can I expect a paid vacation from them to Bermuda as my consolation prize? Sorry for the rant. I feel better now. Please continue!

We thought about having a destination wedding for our closer friends/family (maybe 10-20 max). Then when we got back, we would have thrown a huge party at some place for everyone else. We decided against this idea because we would have ended up paying for some of her family to make the trip. In the end, we had almost 200 attend a traditional style. I honestly wouldn't mind attending a destination wedding for closer friends. I'm always looking for an excuse to travel and destination weddings are usually at all inclusive resorts where everything is first class.

Sounds like you are not a big fan of sponsoring casinos. Since you will have a car, consider taking a 20 minute drive west to Red Rock Canyon. There's a 15 mile loop thru the park that's well worth seeing. Then there's always Hover Dam and Lake Mead. You'll pass a pretty big Searay dealer on the way on Boulder Hwy.

If you're planning on renting from Enterprise, check to see what groups you belong to that Enterprise might give a discount to. I'm a life member of the NRA and when I rent from Enterprise I get a substantial discount (around 40%). I also get free upgrades to larger cars than I rent.

Enterprise has the great service, Budget has the excellent prices and rates.
We met this cute girl Amy one day hanging out on a Colorado River sandbar and she mentioned her website that has served us well.
Dunno if she still runs it though:
