Laptop backup and redundancy

I use VPN now.... I am going to see what my IT guy can do... I just hate asking him for help at home when he is at work all day... I thought there would be an easy solution I could do myself without going to big tech cloud
If you are using vpn back to your office you should be able to save files to your office network. Keep in mind if they are work files you may need to share them with co-workers. If you back up else where you will have duplicate files of varying versions that need to be emailed around. So if your vpn is a tunnel back to your office all you have to do is map a network drive. If its just for security then you can look at something like box.net (professional services) where you can grant access to co-workers and work collaboratively.

If your VPN goes to a central office location where there are servers etc., it should be a pretty basic thing for your IT guy. I understand what you mean though. I hate bugging IT unnecessarily. They would just need to map a drive location for you that you can use the same as your "C" drive locally.

Looks like your using a windows PC, if it's windows 10 it should have OneDrive "cloud storage" already installed, is so, simply save your files to the OneDrive folder, they'll be automatically backed up to the your Microsoft OneDrive account, can be access from any computer by logging into the site and also remain on your laptop hard drive.

I have redundancy in just about everything -- except boats, but that could change in time.

Just get yourself a backup drive, whether it's local (connected directly to the computer) or attached to your local network.

I have a 2TB drive on the network and we have multiple computers in the house so not only can you back up everything, but you can also access files from any device.

My preference is to stay off of the cloud by using a backup drive in the house, but using the cloud could be beneficial to you.

I don't know how anyone can work on a tiny laptop screen. I have 8 HD monitors in my office, because it makes my job easier.

There are so many great things about Macbooks. They're easy to use, and they have everything you need. The operating system is intuitive and simple, the software is very practical, and it's visually appealing. There aren't any extra features which keep the computers running smoothly. It's also easy to find replacements for any of the parts that might break down over time, which makes repairs a breeze. However, Macbooks are also very expensive for repairs. You'll spend at least half of what you paid for the computer on parts alone. When I had problems with the keyboard, I found a computer repair near me, and the guys from there solved the problem.

That's disgusting and hideous.

I've worked at home for 25 years.
Mine backs up to the cloud and to a external hard drive each day. As for screens I have been using a 42 inch for years. I can split the screen into three so it makes it really sweet when working on files or on endless zoom calls and you still want to be on club sea ray at the same time.
I have a great IT guy that comes to my home office a couple times a tear to update everything.

I'm up to 10 screens now, it's like being in air traffic control :D

When I try to work from the boat galley, I can hardly function on 2

Ive been using a 45" for about five years and love it . I have a external drive connected to my system that backs up everyday at 5pm. My phone , ipods, laptop, ipad back up to it.

I keep a laptop and Ipad on the boat that never goes home all I take is this drive. My laptop also backs up to the Icloud each day as well.

Now that your using a 45" get yourself a wireless keyboard and mouse and you can just keep your laptop shut.
